I picked Oneonta because of its isolation, hoping we would be shielded in sorts from hotspots in large urban areas. Don't get me wrong, many students held parties and there were no safety precautions. But there are thousands of colleges across America, do you really think that those kids aren't partying? Of course they are. The schools blatant negligence caused this outbreak. When I was in the dorms there were virtually no checks at all. In order to get into the dining hall you had to put your hands on the doors. While thats normally fine the hand sanitizing dispensers were almost always empty and never refilled. On top of that when they had us get tested they had 200+ kids crowd into one building to get tested. Coincidentally, not too many kids tested positive that day of testing. But tests taken after showed a larger number of corona cases because we infected one another when they crammed us into a building for mandatory testing. I was tested on Monday August 31st and did not receive my results until September 9th. Why didn't I get my results in 2-3 days like most people? Because they lost tests through the incompetent handling of a serious crisis. If you thought that was it...you are wrong. I was refused testing because I did not own a smart phone. I had to go into town to get tested. My roommate had been hanging out with some kids on our floor for extended periods of time, and told the health center this. They told him because he hasn't gotten his test results back yet that he can go home. As soon as he got home he got tested and is now positive. They are sending kids home so its not there problem anymore. Peoples lives will be lost due to this, accountability is key here. They may think that blaming negligent students will distract everyone from the only people who could have made this situation safe for everyone. Incompetence that endangers the lives of families of students should not be rewarded. Do not choose Oneonta for your children, it might be your...
Read moreIf you're serious about academics and/or getting a good job, don't go here.
Some great professors, particularly in the Biology Department I'm in the minority, but I like the location. You can usually find a nice, quiet spot in the library to get work done
Whiny, entitled, lazy, stupid classmates. The majority of students here just want to scrape a C+/B- without cutting into their party schedule In your average 100-level class, maybe 1-in-5 students will do the assigned reading Anytime students have to do work outside of class time, they whine about the workload Lots of rude/unhelpful staff Maybe 5-10 people in each graduating class get what would objectively be called a "good outcome." Nobody ever gets into medical school, maybe 5 students in the last 30 years have gone to top law or business schools. Granted, if you want to go on to get a MA in Gender Studies from the University of Southern Idaho, you could do worse.
The videos and flyers they post for the graduating class say it all. Sure, lots of people go to grad school, but most of them are going to unranked social science programs that give them virtually no chance at a good job. A couple are getting good jobs with good companies, but the majority are either unemployed, or making $25-30K in some dead end job.
I have classmates who've succeeded since leaving here, but this school had nothing...
Read moreHonestly this school was a disapointment for all the hype. I had a few wonderful professors and a few great classes, but over all the education I got was a disapointment compared to my community college. I only learned theory here, not real world skills. Toward the end of my time there they cut a whole bunch of classes for my degree and the classes they did provide had nothing to do with my Criminal Justice Degree. If it werent for the great internship I had, l probably would considered my time there a complete waste. Im very disappointed with how they use student and government funds, I dont see how it goes toward students at all. Ive only seen it go towards art on the property, poor revamping of old buildings, and terrible academic staff, instead of adding greatness to the academics provided or to the multicultural community (which it lacks even though they brag about the 12% multicultural community they hold...because its "such a remarkable amount"....not really folks). For as much as they brag about themselves I dont really see what is worth bragging about, I certainly dont brag about going here to others because my academic experience doesnt even come close to the powerful knowledge that my friends walked away with...
