I am a small business owner. As such, I prefer to patron small business as to help bolster local economy and keep the momentum and pop shops going as they are few and far between nowadays.
Unfortunately, most places that are owned by individuals tend to have to charge more to be able to make money on the product as they do not get bulk pricing.
That being said, customer service should be where these places SHINE! And that is just not the case with Mike's appliance. There are 2 older gentleman that have extremely dry personalities to begin with. They are very "matter of fact" in tone. And don't really carry much for a sense of humor. That however is easily looked past as well. It is just an appliance store. The issue however arises when you have a misunderstanding and they do nothing to make things better.
I had purchased 2 items to be delivered at a later date as the property that they were going into was not done with renovations at time of purchase. The eldest of the gentleman helped me with the purchase and had initially asked for just $100 down to hold them. I however decided to just pay in full as I wanted to be sure they were spoken for as one was scratch and dent. And I also just preferred to have it all said and done.
I called yesterday to request the items now be delivered. Apparently and unbeknownst to me, they did not charge me for delivery. I assume that was due to the fact of the change from $100 down to paying in full.
So this woman answers the phone. I explain I would like the items deliver now. After it took her several minutes to even find my purchase she gets back on the phone, and with an extremely snotty tone says I have to pick them up. To which I replied "well no I wanted them delivered". She then with even more distain in her voice says "well we charge for deliver and YOU didn't pay for that"...... I at that point stated I would call back and hung up.
In later went into the store to return the purchase. And despite the fact of being aware of the Situation there was not offer of an apology, rather defense of the rude treatment I received. And an asserting of the fact that they charge for delivery.
I have purchased over 20 appliances from this store over the last 3 years. I have never been offered any discount, any help on delivery charges which in my opinion should in fact be waived due to the volume of which I buy. But on top of that despite my continuing to go back when I can clearly get the same appliances for much less elsewhere you insult me and then don't even apologize? I will never return. They have permanently lost my business. Someone else can be treated like they don't matter...

So, I purchased a dryer for my new home a couple yrs ago and I didn't want one of those bells and whistles type. I wanted one that worked well.
I bought a Speed Queen (commercial style) gas dryer and it was a great running dryer. Sometimes it would dry the clothes before the washer was done. But then I had an issue with it staying on all the time.
I contacted Mike's TV and appliances for some warranty work. They came to the house as soon as I could have them there and fixed it. The dryer had another issue of running too long (hours) and they came out again! Fixed it and for awhile, it worked.
Just recently, the timer went again and I was shocked because of how well this dryer operates per their reviews. So, once again I contacted Mike's TV and appliances and they were able to get me a new replacement dryer for mine.
I have always been supportive of their business and I will continue to go there for many other needs because of their workforce and support.
Want a great place with even better service.

Read moreI just picked up my new Ariens Deluxe 28 SHO. I spent a great deal of time researching dealers and Mike's stood out, I now know why. Tom showed me the various models and brands, I had narrowed my search to Toro and Ariens, they stock both. I mulled around for at least an hour, checking them all out; a very nice lady offered me coffee. Zero pressure and absolutely no upsell! I'm a stickler for details and they provided all manufacturer specs. This is a third generation family business in Syracuse and ran by the current siblings. I was delighted to see they also sell appliances as well, they have a new permanent customer! What a refreshing alternative to the big box stores!
BTW, there is an earlier review of appliance prices being "high"? are you kidding me? I was browsing while they assembled and tested my new snowblower (another benefit of a local dealer); I was amazed at how reasonably priced the appliances were! I wish I had know of this place when I remodelled...
