Park brings back memories of a time before safety. Which I'm not saying is a bad thing, one of the last remaining parks with a few things of old. Some new equipment as well. I like to stroll the paths and look at all the different landscaping.
Zoo is what you'd expect for a free zoo, which again isn't necessarily a bad thing. Where else in Kansas can you just say I think I'll go see a bear? On the bear point the black bear seemed to love that we came and wanted to show off by running quickly over to the tree and climbing to the top to stand on it.
I've always felt a little sad for some like the arctic fox having a small enclosure and kansas heat but I'm sure he's adapted fine over the years, probably a better option then what else could be easily in store for him. Read moreI don't know how anyone can condone this zoo remaining open. The animals are kept in tiny metal and concrete cells with barely enough room to pace, let alone play. The bear is obviously neglected with dirty and matted fur. They have an arctic fox left out in the 100 degree Kansas heat with only a igloo shaped dog house to try and escape the sun. I realize that renovations are being planned, but these animals have been tortured and neglected for years in this same condition. How many more years are they going to suffer while anything new is built? If...
Read moreStopped here with the family while taking a road trip. What an amazing park!! I am also proud of the community that funds this magnificent little zoo for everyone to visit. This park also has fountains, walking paths, gazebo with picnic benches and a playground for the kids.
An amazing variety of animals, and amazing to see that it does so well that new enclosures are being built.
Make this a stop on your list, bring a sack lunch and enjoy what the local residents have provided...
