Rockefeller Park Greenhouse — Attraction in Cleveland

The four architecturally historic bridges designed by architect, Charles F. Schweinfurth, in Rockefeller Park are in the National Register of Historic Places (as are the Cultural Gardens). The Wade Park Avenue Bridge over Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (formerly Liberty Boulevard) has an arched underpass and a curved staircase from the SE corner of the bridge between the park and Wade Park Avenue. The Superior Avenue Bridge over the parkway is an arch with straight sides and a separate pass through for Doan Brook. The Saint Clair Avenue Bridge over the parkway is a single arched underpass with three arched entrances (center for motor vehicles with pedestrian entrances on both sides of the roadway). North of the Saint Clair Avenue Bridge is a two arch bridge over Doan Brook. This is not one of the four bridges in the National Register. The Conrail (formerly Lake Shore & Michigan Southern) Railway Bridge over Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (formerly Liberty Boulevard) at the North end of Rockefeller Park has an arched underpass with straight sides and has crests decorating the structure. NO DOGS ALLOWED --- This greenhouse/garden is very pretty. I only walked the outside, and because I visited in September, most of the flowers were already gone. The layout of the garden is very clean and organized. Upon entering the parking area, on the left is a garden with the Willott Iris Garden on the back, and on the right is another garden that is more like a mini arboretum with a garden in the back dedicated to the deaf, the Helen Keller garden. I enjoyed walking the grounds. When I arrived, I missed the "No Dogs Allowed" sign at the entrance. I walked my dogs around the property, and because it was late September there weren't many people there, and no one mentioned to me it was no dogs allowed. I saw the No Dogs Allowed sign when I was walking back to my car. Oops. Anyway, it's a nice little garden, and I assume it will be even more beautiful in the Summer when the flowers...

Rockefeller Park (created with help from John D. and with bridges designed by the same architect responsible for those in NYC Central Park, and I believe, Acadia National Park) encompasses a series of cultural gardens running along side the Doan Creek Valley and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. These gardens were founded and constructed by the communities of Cleveland established during the immigration wave beginning prior to WWI and continuing through WWII. The gardens are currently going through a renaissance and continue to be maintained by descendents of those original immigrant communities and supporters of the cultural diversity that is so central to American history and values.
