The best free activity is a family hike! If you like in Macomb County or Clinton Township Michigan you got to check out this nature center! #metrodetroit #thingstodoinmichigan #freeactivities #familyfriendly #macombcounty

*NOTE: WATCH FOR TICKS* I often love to check out new hiking areas around the neighborhood, and this was an interesting hidden park/nature center tucked behind CJ Barrymore's. The views here are incredible along the Clinton River, and there are soooooo many trails to choose from and wander, all eventually interconnecting. BUT! We cut through the tall grass along the loop trail at the end of the hike, ended up picking up ticks. After thorough checking of our clothes and bodies at the end of the hike, we cleared and disposed of nearly 30 large ticks between the 4 of us. Thankfully no one was bit, but be very aware when hiking this area, especially with pets.

Such a nice little piece of nature hidden in the city! We only passed 3 others on our 1 hour walk. Favorite part was the spring ephemerals. Trout lilies, blood root, violets,Jack in the pulpit! Such a variety of natives and lots of invasive... Boo for lots of garlic mustard and multiflora rose. Pretty little trail made of dirt... Wish I had my barefoot shoes on but my Crocs were sufficient. Very worth a visit!

This is a nice place to visit in a relaxed atmosphere. Just an FYI, the dirt trails have wooden portions at intervals along the trail. As I stepped onto the wooden part with shoes that were slightly damp from the dirt and leaf parts of the trail, my feet slipped suddenly out from under me and I fell backward and struck my head pretty hard on the wet wood. I was stunned for a minute but my wife and son helped me up and we continued onward. My head was pretty sore for a couple of days. It’s a nice scenic Nature Center, but I have to suggest not wearing anything close to a “gym” or rubber bottomed athletic shoe or you may land very swiftly flat...
