With more than 50 miles of coastline and 40 miles of trails, Lake Sonoma is an activity packed park surrounded by beauty. This beautiful lake and park is in Northern California, more specifically western Sonoma County.
Fun Fact: this lake is the main source of water for more than 600,000 residents and businesses in the north bay.
With Lake Sonoma being freshwater it plays an important role in the reproduction of threatened and/or endangered species of salmon and trout. It has a fish hatchery as well as a visitors center which is open 10am-4pm.
One of the many activities Lake Sonoma offers is hiking. With its flawless trails and scenic views hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders have found a nature spot to put on the favorites list! If you’re feeling sporty there is an archery range as well as a disc golf course. There’s not only a park for the kiddos, but for the doggos as well. There is tent camping, rv camping and even good old fashioned, laying on a mat under the stars kind of camping. This Lake is also very boat friendly with all the boat necessities like ramps, rentals, and more!
There are two beautifully scenic picnic areas.
The first one is at the base of the dam and right near the visitors center. It’s called the “Warm Springs Recreation Area.” This one includes a big grass area, a children’s playground, and a set of restrooms. The second picnic area is the Yorty Creek Recreation Area.
I personally loved this area. It has beautiful views. There is so much region and space to explore because it’s such a big park. I really enjoy how much there is to do so there’s something for everyone. There was an older woman who was working at the visitors center and she mentioned how a lot of the schools in Sonoma county go there for field trips every year. She was very talkative and nice.
To the beautiful people of Sonoma county and visitors abroad, I would definitely put Lake Sonoma as one of the top nature attractions in...

However since the water levels are incredibly low-probably has decreased by 100 feet it was very difficult finding and getting too the campsite as the terrain looks different from the map given.
If you are camping be prepared to carry all of your gear up to your campsite! That said island View was lovely and fitted...
