Mammoth Lake | Spots Worth Visiting Even If You Don’t Ski! 🏔️❄️

Mammoth Lake seems like it's the destination for Houston area divers and for those looking to get training hours. Given this, I expected more from the facility. I recently completed my open water dives over the course of two days. The lake was very busy and I saw lots of students there getting training. The lake charges $25 per diver. With this entrance fee I would have hoped for things to be better maintained. I unfortunately experienced the following things over this past weekend: 1. The dock/getting ready areas were extremely overgrown with grass and weeds and it didn't appear anything had been mowed or weeded recently. It looked very snaky in some parts and overall unkept. 2. The dressings rooms had a door broken on one and no working lock on the other. They were full of bugs and cobwebs. 3. The portable bathrooms appeared very dirty and in needed of daily cleaning. 4. Trash cans were overflowing, with lots of trash on the ground near the cans. 5. There was litter all around the dock and getting ready areas. Saw some trash by the waters edge. I believe this place probably makes a decent profit due to the influx of divers at its location. The water itself was as expected so I have no complaints there. However, overall I was left feeling disappointed by the facilities and the apparent lack of care and cleanliness. I sincerely hope the owners see that and implement some changes to help make this diving destination a better and more enjoyable experience for Texas divers! Simple changes like mowers once a week, weekly or bi-weekly trash disposal and pickup etc, would make a huge difference! For now I will be considering other destination for nearby diving and future training hours.

Mammoth Lake dive Academy was the at most friendly, welcoming and made my first dive experience amazing. My instructor Jason was calm collected and very on my pace for everything I was doing. I never felt rushed or even downed on for not knowing something. If this is your first time or your hundred time diving I still 100% recommend this Dive shop for anything you need! The people working in the shop and instructing are patient and willing to do anything in their power to help you out to make your experience the best as possible!

The staff here is amazing, but during our visit the water was incredibly murky making visibility during our dives near to only about 5 feet making all the awesome objects they've sunken to explore little more than waypoints along a route. Additionally the water was very low, which is not their fault, but the angle of our ramp was such that one diver fell while trying to exit the waterside. Railings or ropes need to be installed as these lower water levels become more and...
