If you are a scuba diver and you have the chance, definitely get down to Clute, Texas and go to Mammoth Lake for some of the most fantastic lake diving in Texas. The lake is set up for diving and fishing is not allowed so no chance for getting hooked! There are over 150 sunken treasures to dive on including three fire engines, a C-130, the Astro-World Space Shuttle, a mock submarine (she’s yellow y’all), and a train caboose just to name a few. The lake is around 40’ deep but there is a metal shaft that drops down to over 60’. It is open year round but during the winter season it’s only open on the weekends. But if you have a 7mm wetsuit, winter diving in southeast Texas is not bad. Come try it out, you will not be...
Read moreGreat dive spot. Currently, they're offering 2 tank tour dives (they provide tanks, bring/rent your own gear) for $100. My Dive Master, Julian, was awesome. He was very casual and made sure I was having fun, but I could tell his #1 priority was watching my back to keep me safe.
I really wanted to see the cockpit of the C130, but down at 40ft depth, it was almost pitch black and very cold, so I'd recommend a thick wetsuit and a light. The shallower attractions (my fav was the Sub and tail section of the C130) can easily be visited with no wetsuit and no light. Keep in mind that this is a lake, so expect visibility to be around 5-15ft with a sharp thermocline and murk layer at around 25-30ft, as of...
Read moreDove here for the first time last weekend. Very nice and clean facility. Love the shaded docks, changing area, and the awesome customer service! I lost my mask while swimming back to the dock :( I messaged the owner, Jason ,who took personal time out of his day to dive and find my mask for me!! He was able to recover it, and offered to mail it back to me since we live almost 5 hours away!!! Where else would that ever happen?! We loved the C130, the NASA pod, and other things we saw. There were so many things to see, that it was impossible to dive it all in one day. We will definitely be back several more times to dive again, and are definitely telling our dive friends to make the trip here to...
