Hermosa Vineyards...where do we begin!? The environment was so relaxed and inviting. The owner, Kenn, is no stranger to the wine craft. He was taught how to make wine as a child by Italians. I asked an endless amount of questions and Kenn patiently answered them in ways that a non-winemaker could understand. He grows 17 different varietals and the whole process is done on site: picking the grapes, crushing the grapes, the fermentation(s), bottling, and labeling. In fact, Kenn engineered a machine that conveys the empty bottles, inserts argon, fills the bottle with wine, corks the bottle, seals it and then labels it. It packages up to 12 bottles/min and Kenn designed it himself!
My attention was captured by the Chardonnay, because I'm picky with my Chardonnay, but Hermosa Vineyard's oak fermented Chardonnay was just right. Each of the wines we tried were so unique and we especially loved the Cherry Dessert Wine (even bought a bottle).
His staff were exceptional as well! The two ladies working were engaged with all of their guests and their knowledge of wine was apparent.
However we were most impressed by his willingness to show us around his vineyard, allow a barrel tasting, and show us how the grapes are crushed. He also allowed us to try wines that weren't on the tasting menu. It was my first time trying Viognier, and the nose was spectacular, lots of floral notes. I'm bringing a bottle of that home next time as well!
Now it's your turn to experience Hermosa...
Read moreWorse winery we have ever been to, owner was rude and disrespectful. My family of 4 were out for a nice day of wine tasting. Three of us had the tasting at 20 dollars each and my husband ordered a glass of wine for 15 dollars. I offered my husband a sip of my first sample of white wine. He scolded me— asked if I had read the menu?? It says 20 dollars per person. I thought he was kidding and giggled. He sternly said I am not kidding and will charge person!! What? He wasn’t giving me more wine I was sharing. He liked to talk about himself the whole time. My daughter did not like a sample so poured it out in the water pitcher instead of the bucket. He yelled at her saying that was the water pitcher. We were the only people there. He was so upset about it. On top of all this the wine was mediocre at best!! We always buy a few bottles of wine when we do wine tasting but not here. Even if I liked the wine I would not buy anything from him. The atmosphere was awful as well. Unkept landscape. We thought about turning around but gave it the benefit of the doubt.. We were soooo wrong with that decision. Our...
Read moreMy sister and I had a FANTASTIC time tasting Hermosa Vineyards’ wonderful wines this afternoon. We were very fortunate to have our wines served by Ken Dunn, Hermosa Vineyard’s extremely personable, enjoyable and witty owner.
Ken had a wealth of information at his “fingertips” about each of the special wines we tasted and he shared his knowledge with us in a very easy-to-understand and “down to earth” way.
Although I usually don’t care for red wines, Hermosa Vineyards’ red wine samples were so delicious. I also really loved the special dry white wine and cherry dessert wine that I tasted.
My sister, who always enjoys red wines, raved about the Hermosa red wines she’d tried. Both of us will definitely savor the four bottles of Hermosa Vineyards’ wine that we bought — 2 red wines, 1 special dry white wine, and a cherry dessert wine.
We had lots of fun talking to Ken and appreciated his hard work and deep commitment to producing great wines, regardless of the adverse affects of climate changes.
My sister and I definitely intend to return to Hermosa Vineyards this...
