The Museum of Friends is an extraordinary gem that beautifully celebrates the power of art. From the moment we stepped through its doors, we were captivated by the vibrant energy and the inspiring collection that awaited us. The first thing that struck us was the incredibly warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff at the Museum of Friends are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the exhibits. Their enthusiasm is contagious and enhances the entire experience. Their dedication to preserving and sharing the stories behind each artwork truly shines through. The museum showcases an impressive range of pieces from local artists and beyond, spanning various mediums and styles. No mater what your personal taste in art is, there's something for everyone to admire and appreciate. Each piece tells a unique story and offers a glimpse into the artist's creative journey. In conclusion, the Museum of Friends in Walsenburg, Colorado, is a well worth the stop. With its impressive collection, welcoming atmosphere, and commitment to fostering connections, it is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking an inspiring and uplifting cultural experience.

What a breath of fresh air for Walsenburg! What a terrific place to swing by for an hour or two and look at a very wide range of types of work in their permanent collection and any exhibits they have going on. Currently the exhibits are John Wark's Colorado Wildfires, Camille Seaman's Photographs of Our Polar Regions, Larry Racioppo's Hurricane Sandy exhibit and many more upstairs. What I found most interesting was seeing more history of the area besides more typical things Walsenburg is known for such as mining, the Coalfield, Battle of Walsenburg, etc. Everyone who works here is fantastic! You see and hear the passion they have for the works on display. Hopefully, Maria is there, and you have extra time to learn about Miners Plaza Park directly across the street from them and whatever else she feels like sharing! In the alley behind their building and the alley behind the other buildings while walking north to Heritage Park are also loaded with art murals that are beautiful. I'll definitely be returning for another visit.

This place is AMAZING. The first floor features traveling exhibits which are switched out every few months. The upper floor features a permanent collection and it is mind-blowingly amazing. It felt like I was swimming in art. Artists that I have heard of before, and many artists that I have never heard of before. A little local art, and a lot of New York art. You get a little taste of the Colorado communes from the '60s. Loads of fabulous printwork. Sculpture, pencil drawings, ink drawings, mixed media, collage, oils on canvas and other substrates, acrylics, photography, watercolor, even broken glass. There's also one whole room devoted to Hawaii and Pacific island art and craft, and stepping foot into this room felt like I was catapulted into another world. I can't believe that this quality, variety, and sheer volume of art is right here in downtown Walsenburg! Absolutely worth your while. You can book a tour through their website. Please be sure to make a monetary donation.

We walked into the Museum of Friends off the street. Taking the elevator to the top floor, we were immediately drawn into this unbelievable space filled with magnificently diverse art, covering nearly every available piece of wall. Most galleries surround their pieces with sterile minimalism--gaping negative space intended force their pieces into the viewer's foreground and leave little distraction. The Museum of Friends dismisses this cliche to accomplish the exact opposite effect. The crowded walls make engagement with each piece non-authoritarian--you are drawn to a beautiful work because you chose it from its company. Moreover, the museum space becomes its own artistic piece, buzzing with the creative synergy of so much visual activity. This is the only way I have to describe my feeling of unexpectedly finding myself in a beautiful, active, and self-contained world after leaving the elevator. Ironically, an "Alice in the Wonderland" inspired exhibit was also being installed in a room adjacent to the main hall.

When we first walked into this main room, we were greeted by Maria, one of the directors of the museum. She put her work (assembling the new exhibit) on pause and generously offered to show us around. As we moved through the rooms, with Maria commenting on some of the pieces, it became clear why 'friends' is in the name of the museum. She intimately knew each of the artists, their work, and even their development over time. She made each of the pieces take on a new significance, beyond their raw visual effect, as following from the histories of the artists. She also drew lines of communication through the pieces, deepening their creative synergy, by describing ties of personal collaboration and inspiration between the artists themselves. Maria's approach to art and to curation is totally human--the name of the museum could not be more appropriate.

Needless to say, I am so delighted that I met this amazing museum and its creators, and I hope that the Museum of Friends...

It's been exciting watching the influx of diverse cultures and creative spirit that has been building in Southern Colorado over the years, and I was super excited to finally stop by the Museum of Friends in Walsenburg after recently learning about it.

The museum is diverse, having three thoughtful exhibitions on display in the primary gallery floor, and the entire upper floor is filled with a stunning, massive collection of artwork from the myriad of friends for which the museum is named. Though we didn't explore too thoroughly, there is a lovely gift shop with a diverse, affordable collection of artworks and gifts near the entryway of the museum, as well as section selling art supplies that are otherwise impossible to find in the area.

We were so fortunate to have an opportunity to meet and chat with the owners and gallery director, who are deeply passionate about art and sharing their love with the world.

This is a very special place filled with the imaginative magic we need as human beings :) Nourish and treat yourself and your loved ones to the...
