Upon walking into this dog park I immediately noticed that there is a dog size hole in the entryway on the fence. After taking my dogs off the leash and coming inside the dog park the next thing I see is an overflowing pet waste trash bin. As I continue to walk through I noticed that A third of the dog park is dirt and gravel. As we get closer to the far end of it there is water collecting in a 30’ wide puddle. Out of the handful of trees that are here most of them are dead and offered no shade. After my dogs played a bit we walked back to the water fountains. Of which were not working. This concluded my visit today. This place could be awesome if the city would put some care into it.
Follow up (2021)-
No changes have been made. The trash is worse than before. More trees have fallen. The water by is still turned off. The hole in the gate is still there.
Update: the water fountains for dogs are on! They run continuously day and night every day. 🙃
UPDATE TO THE UPDATED UPDATE:
This is such a relief! I visited the parks and everything is fixed, updated and clean. These are now great dog parks. Thank you for completing...
Read moreI'm glad it's here but it's fairly neglected in that the trash cans with dog poop can go weeks without being emptied, no bags to pick up poop at times, water fountains are always in some state of disrepair or not working at all(bring your own water and bowl just in case) , loose boards around the fountains, the big dog side is mostly dirt and mulch, no shade structures, oddly shaped, and the fountains are in odd locations. Location is horrible. Ft. Benning has 3 dog parks and the one Columbus has is 100 yards from Ft Benning. Signage is not displayed at parking so it's not easy to find.
The good things about it are the benches, tables and waste stations are nice. The spaces are very large, lots of room for dogs to run, sniff and explore. It's typically not busy I'm guessing that's due to location more than anything. However it is busy enough that new grass does not have a chance since it's THE ONLY dog park in town. This city needs SEVERAL more dog parks in more...
Read moreThis is the only public dog park in Columbus. I've lived here six months and basically no one knows about this place. I also thought it was part of the environmental learning center, which it isn't. This Oxbow Support Facility park is open sunrise to sunset but I don't think Google maps can display those hours correctly. It was closed the day I found it so I'll have to take the 25 minute drive again this weekend; it would be great for the state's website to mention that. Overall though the small and large dog sections are huge, have seating with a little shade, stocked doggie bag stations and water fountains which may or may not work. I can't wait to actually get...
