This is a wonderful museum that covers and often overlooked aspect of the Civil War -- the naval war. It is packed with fascinating artifacts, weapons, gear, memorabilia, and models that tell the story of both the Union and Confederate navies during the Civil War. It has two unique displays: the remains of the ironclad CSS Jackson and the gunboat CSS Chattahoochee. Additionally, it has mock-ups of the ironclad CSS Albemarle, ironclad USS Monitor, and the steam-powered sloop-of-war USS Hartford, which served as Admiral David G. Farragut’s flagship. They also feature a very impressive collection of Civil War flags from ships and forts involved in naval engagements. Outside of the museum is a recreation of the USS/CSS Water Witch, a steam-powered sidewheel gunboat that served with both the US and Confederate navies during...

An interesting glimpse into a bygone era. A bit off the path but recommended for anyone with interest in American history, the American Civil War and Ironclads from that time period. The recovered remnants of the C.S.S. Jackson (aka CSS Muscogee) are housed in one entire section of the Museum. A metal framework outlines the missing area of the ironclad; the scale of which is surprisingly larger than one would imagine. Impressive life sized walk thru exhibits include a Union Ship of the day and a Confederate Ironclad and dock area. Numerous painting, artifacts, flags, and photographs make this museum a worthy excursion for those wishing to see a bit of 19th century Americana. Admittedly a Civil War buff, I spent a quiet and fascinating few hours getting a real "feel" for the navies of that era....

The Port Collumbus Civil War naval Center is on Victory Drive in downtown Columbus, Ga. there are replicas of all kinds of ships and so forth here. Admission was like 6.50 per person, but when we told them we drove from all the way up North to visit they gave us the childs admission. It was pretty much a self-guided tour of the museum. they had real-life replicas of ships and iron clads. there was a movie of what it was like to work, sleep and live on an ironclad. it also highlighted the roll that Georgia played in the War. There were all sorts of flags and battle standards of the Navies involved in the war.

It featured the salvaged wreck of the CCS Jackson as well as a part of the turret from the USS Monitor. Plus they're building their own full size replica of a blockade runner USS / CSS...

Extremely good, really loved the exhibits, having many artifacts and relics, as well as many of the exhibits being very interactive and highly informative. While small, there was a ton of information and things to do and learn in the museum, could've spent all day there. They have video lessons by the curator, audio tours from you phone you have to find by going through the exhibit, you can actually go into a recreation of life below decks of a civil war vessel, and even have scale models of the old civil war ironclads and an old civil warship you can tour outside. While it's appearance from the main road could be improved, this was a fantastic museum, a hidden gem of Columbus Georgia. If you enjoyed the National Infantry Museum, this is another must-see that's only 5 minutes away.

Visited 12/28/2021 The man at the front desk was very knowledgeable on the ships displayed as well as other ships that they are attempting to locate and raise out of the ocean. The CSS Jackson is a much larger ship than it appears in the pictures, even with a portion of the middle missing. You can see the giant spikes holding the ship together, as well as the damage from the battles it was in. There are several cannons on display, and a plethora of other diagrams and informative plaques throughout the museum giving you information on the ships, artillery, crews and their quarters. Absolutely would recommend for a [Naval] history lover

I am glad places like this exist, they are preserving the past and presenting it in a great fashion. The exhibits are well constructed allowing you to get close to see the artifacts up close. You can walk around the remains of the 190 ft. CSS Jackson and the 141 ft. CSS Chattahoochee. Outside they have a full scale reproduction of the USS/CSS Water Witch that you can explore in and on. Inside, there are alot of artifacts and information panels telling facts and stories, don't skip these, they relate interesting information from the time.
