I am very disapointed in this Cider Mill. I have never in my life seen such a family experience turn into a money maker for this Cider Mill. My husband, myself and my 2.5 year old went to this Cider mill today to get a pumpkin and have some cider and doughnuts. While, we love the doughnuts, we were not able to get a pumpkin there. We got there about 4pm on a Saturday, there were no pumpkins in the front area. So then we were instructed that if we wanted a pumpkin we would have to get a wristband for $8.00 to go back to the area where the maze was etc.. My son was not interested on going on the hayride to get a pumpkin and we were not going to pay $24 for the three of us to get a pumpkin and maybe go on a hayride, and maybe go play at the park etc..there were to many maybes there with a small child. On top of the fee to get into the gate, you had to pay $5 for the pumpkin. I find it disgusting that this place charges to pick out a pumpkin. Why would they charge an adult to go into the back area when they are not going to play on the park equipment. Maybe give people some options, charge people for the hayride or the children to go into the corn maze but not the adults. A half a gallon of cider is 5.50. Wow are you kidding me? So my family and son left longs orchard disapointed, no pumpkin and not a happy child. While the doughnuts are great, there are many other doughnuts like Yates Cider Mill that are excellent as well. Yates doesnt charge you to "look" at things and they dont charge you to "pick" out a pumpkin on top of buying the pumpkin. Give people options. Families are struggling now a days. I understand its a business but there should be options for families. I cant imagine if we had more kids etc...Definitly wont be going back there. On a side note, while they do give you cups for your cider, there are no napkins..now comon.....We ended up going to Kroger and saw many people that were at the cider mill when we were there at Kroger getting a pumpkin...Krogers pumpkins were buy one get one free...now comon Longs..are you trying to rip people off? I think so....I hope people read this review and think twice before visiting this orchard again. Also, hire some friendlier people, this isnt the secretary of...

I just came home from visiting the Long Family Orchard, Farm & Cider Mill. I am a native to metro Detroit and I have visited most cider mills within 50 miles. Today the weather was nice and on the way home I decided to take the family for a stop at the cider mill...Long family was right on the way so I decided to stop there and try it out. The set up was nice and it wasn't too crowded and I was able to walk right in, grab a bagged dozen of cinnamon-sugar donuts and went for a gallon on fresh cider and they were out of out of gallons but they did have plenty of half gallons so I grabbed 2 halves. They were slightly high priced but that is to be expected when buying fresh cider and donuts from a local mill.
I proceeded to the counter followed by an older gentleman who stepped up to the counter next to me. He asked if the 2 half gallons of cider would count as one since they were out of full gallon jugs. (The gallon was priced at $7.00 and the half was $4.50) The young lady turned to the heavyset blond older woman at my register and asked her the same questions and the older woman let out a sigh and whispered a response to the young lady. The young lady explained to the gentleman that they don't usually do that but they will today considering the circumstance. She charged him $7.00 and I turn to the woman who gave the discount and she proceeded to charge my $9.00 for the same 2 half gallons.
I questioned her about the transaction and she said no...they don't discount it...the price is what it is and would not give me the same deal that was given to the guy that was actually behind me. I am not one to pull out the race card but in this situation, it was the only difference between me and the guy next to me. I was very disappointed to say the least but I just smiled, paid for my items and left the store.
I explained what happened to the woman at the pumpkin stand and she was instantly embarrassed and proceeded to give me a $2.00 refund and apologized profusely. This was my first time coming to this cider mill and needless to say, it...
Read moreOur family sure would like to go to our local cider mill. But we can't. It's CLOSED! Just like every year, even though most cider mills in the state open the 1st week of Sept.
In these difficult times you would think Longs would like to take in as much income as possible to help off set the huge financial burden of owning, staffing and running such a complicated multi acre farm.
When they do finally open there will be a huge line 4 people wide out to the street, because its the only cider mill near commerce. I have seen clerks stuffing the registers with so many twenties that they won't even fit in the compartment for that bill denomination. My guess is on a Sat or Sun 10-20 grand per/day. During the week is slower but still very busy with a line, maybe only 5 grand per/day. So they are losing approximately 185,000 to 265,000 dollars for not opening in September. WHY? It's their business and they can run it they way they want of course, but for a seasonal business to lose a entire month of their short season is mind boggling. Is it because it snuck up on them and they weren't ready yet? No they have 10 months to prepare. Are they so wealthy they just don't need the business? I don't know. To lose 50 percent of your sales on a short 2 month season makes no sense ??? When a neighbor asked them WHY??? as they were driving away disappointed Longs said they were ”still harvesting” How does Franklin, Diehl's, and every other cider mill in the state open? Franklin doesn't even grow anything there. They're open. Why not buy product from other MI farms that can harvest on time.
After reading the MANY other one-star reviews, most are complaining about being nickel and dimed to death. Prices 4 times higher than other Mills. Kids play area $18 each. Maybe if longs opened the first weekend of September like all the others they would be able to give their guests napkins...
