Well, this is long, so I apologize in advance. I never really give five star reviews because I think there’s always room for improvement. Sadly, we experienced something that hit that last star yesterday. First off, that rickety old train was absolutely awesome. We had a party of eight adults and two kids and everyone loved it. For almost all of us it was our first real train experience. The staff, from the scheduling lady and manager who helped with the ticket problem (website issues) through the Circle D fellas and gals and the train jockeys- they were all awesome. Very, very polite, professional, helpful and funny. My dad has a foot injury and we took him to the Western train ride for part of his birthday, and every time we went to board or leave the train we had at least two gentlemen ask if we wanted assistance. Very, very on point. The shootout shows were super cheesy and I’m pretty sure everyone was laughing or grinning at some point. They offered photos afterwards, and one elder gentleman took a knee for a photo with my nephew and brother in law. Blew my mind that he didn’t hesitate and just popped on down knowing he might have a rough time getting back up. Of course my brother in law helped and thanked him. And I won’t ruin the surprise, but watch out for the old cowpoke carrying a skunk. ;) I think my favorite bit was the bantering on the train. They had some next level dad jokes. :) That fifth star is because my sister overheated, had a seizure and we ended up in the ER. Not only did one of their guys recognize it almost as soon as it started, but they called EMS and stayed with us while it happened. One lady, bless her heart, held my mom and comforted her when she broke down. If you ever read these comments, ma’am, thank you for that. And sir, thank you for responding so quickly and helping as well. I do want to say she’s home and well, just very, very tired. I hope God blesses you all and we will most certainly make the trip again to ride the rails with y’all (it was about five hours round trip for some of us, eight for others)- it was absolutely worth it and I will recommend you guys to anyone without reservation. You are all lovely, lovely people and honest to God I wish we had more normal, caring and wonderful people like you...
Read moreThe Wild, Wild West tour was a surprise Father's Day gift and it did not disappoint. I thought the entire trip was excellent and would highly recommend it.
TRAIN: The train is old and lacks glam, but has character. As there is no air conditioning, the windows were opened and we had a great breeze. The seats are organized where there are two benches facing each other. These spaces are quite tight. We sat with two adults in each (there could be space for little ones).
STAFF: The staff is WONDERFUL!!!!! You talk about sweet and friendly. You can clearly tell that they take pride in their work. They were extremely helpful and accommodating for those with disabilities.
ENTERTAINMENT: O.M.G. This group was the highly of the trip. They personally visited each group all throughout the trip. There was a group of singers who serenaded the ladies, took requests, and had singalongs with the kiddos. The law and the cowboys joked and poked fun. They had two different "shows." One was in Metamora and the other was on the way back. All of them were funny.
METAMORA: I read quite a view reviews that mentioned how to take advantage of the 2 hour layover. We immediately ate lunch, grabbed an ice cream, and headed to the reenactment field. This was just enough time. I couldn't imagine being able to do any other attractions in this sort window without running out feeling rushed.
The only trouble we ran into during the trip was the walking for my dad. Community members offered him rides on their golf carts. We mentioned this to one of the cowboys and he noted that he would look into having golf carts available in the future. He was genuinely concerned and committed to making the experience better.
I can't say enough good things about this adventure....
Read moreThe 1/2 hour Family friendly Ghost Train Ride from Metomora, Indiana was wonderful. Metamora was about an hour drive from northern Kentucky. We arrived an hour early to the town of Metamora. The town had plenty of free parking along the canal. The canal had a group of ducks who looked like turkeys. The was filled with little antique stores, a custom woodworking store, blacksmith shop, coffee shop with chess and board games, pizza parlor, ice cream shop, miniature golf course, gem rock mining store, gift shops, a welcome center and two public restrooms one on each side of the small town. The whole town is walkable, historically and beautifully interesting and the people were so welcoming and friendly. It was magical to explore. There were hayrides going on for the Halloween trail. The town was decked out in every kind of Halloween decoration. Then we heard the train whistle and saw the beautiful train coming into the center of town. The ticket booth had fresh popcorn for $1 and a really friendly check in process. It was well organized and easy to board the train. The ride was so wonderful and a half hour was the perfect amount of time for younger children. We loved the stories, lighting and sound effects and actors going through the train. The seats were cushioned and comfortable. The view outside was of forest, canal, a river, and horse pasture. Also a bike and walking trail runs alongside it.
I would definitely recommend this entire experience. I suggest at least an hour extra time before or after to...
