Trip July 2020
Little did we know, we would have one of the most perfect yurt spots at spot Y91 in section B. I am glad we decided on that one since it was close to the bathroom/shower with quick access to the beach. The space was ample with only one tent/RV hook up site next to us. We visited long beach last year in June, and long beach literally means it takes forever to walk through trails and sand to get to the ocean. Not in the campground though, which was so nice because kids don’t really deal well with the long walks when they want to instantly play in the sand and have little patience.
The yurt features a twin over a double bunk bed, a futon, and a small table with 2 chairs. I had already planned for the bed being horrible to sleep on, and I was right. My husband didn’t grab the hiking pads so I had to endure sleeping on what felt like a rock for 2 nights. I am not used to beds that hard, so I will remember to grab an air topper for next time. Yurts also have power and a heater, which we ended up using that first night since it was chilly. We were told that they were ramping up cleaning for COVID19 standards, but when we got there, it was spiders galore. My daughter was freaked out and spotted every single one. We tallied up about 22 spiders killed inside of the yurt with plenty more out of reach by the time our stay was over. I know we’re outdoors and all, but we didn’t pay to sleep with a forest of spiders, some with giant butts that my husband said didn’t look good. Our stay would have been a lot better if they actually took care of the bugs. I've been bit by a spider before and it wasn't a...

This place books out 8-months out & I can see why!
The lots that we reserved were great in every way. The rangers go around checking to make sure that the fire pit gets cleaned, that people aren't running around illegally camping without paying & registering for the site. There are volunteer staff that host the sites so that the bathroom & showers are being monitored. You can also buy the firewood from them if you forget to bring a bundle (or don't want to take up the space) but it's $8/bundle either way.
There is a storefront by the entrance as well.
The good news is that showers are now free & there is no need to break into your piggy bank looking for quarters or buy tokens.
There are also stations for recycling & a large compactor for garbage.
Pro tip: This place is huge. If you Google map this location l, it says you've arrived, but that's incorrect. You need to drive a few miles more until you get to the ranger station.
Bring tons of bug spray because the mosquitoes are working in FULL force here.
Also make sure you bring warm clothing as it is 20° cooler here by the ocean than where you're coming from in the city.
As well there are crows & raccoons that will eat whatever you leave out, so keep things covered.
There is plenty of tree sap dropping from the trees, so make sure your tree isn't overly sappy if you are going to use it for coverage.
Midas 5-stars for all of the amenities & proximity...
Read moreJust okay...we came here for two nights of camping. Our site number was 202. Here's my first pet peeve, when you go online there are much better sites available then what's shown. Had we known that we would've just gone down to find a spot. Our spot was just okay, no privacy whatsoever. The amount of raccoons that were eyeing us and our campsite nightly caused not so much of an alarm but it was a big pain in the butt making sure there was nothing left out for them to put their mitts on when we left the site or went to sleep for the night. I'm talking BIG raccoons that had no fear of us or our two dogs. My main reason for the lack of more stars is simple, the bathroom facilities that were for our area. Outdated, dirty and obviously not cared for. The bathrooms however by the sites more geared for RV campers were much nicer. I'm not handicapped but the facility by us had nothing for anyone that may be in a wheelchair. Pretty sad in that regard too. One other thing I was unimpressed with is the lack of garbage receptacles throughout the park. I'm sure it's a pain in the butt to stay on top of keeping them in order but this place really needs them scattered about. The park itself is a beautiful one, but I've been to others that are much worthwhile...
