We have come here SO MANY TIMES over the years. We always buy wine and overpriced gifts for the fam at home and eat overpriced meals in their Cafe and they've always been super nice. Until tonight. They have no sign up saying their hours. We wanted to know what the apricot wine tasted like before we purchased any and the lady at the wine sample booth walked away as we walked up. There was no sign saying closed, just one saying to let them know when you need service. We figured she would be back once she did whatever she needed to do so we waited patiently. And waited. And waited. The lady meanwhile was talking to someone she knew on the other side of a short wall and showing him pics on his phone. Finally I decided to go get someone else because she's obviously busy. The lady I found was super nice and started to come help us but that first lady wrapped up her conversation in time to tell her she couldn't because it was too close to closing time. Okay, but why would you make us wait for so long then? Why not tell us right away? You obviously saw us. It made me realize that obviously they don't care about us so why should we continue to shop and dine here time after time after time? Costco sells sweet wines, too. Heck, where doesn't? And you can find more affordable places to eat and their. The only reason we've always stopped here was because of wanting to support them. But, why? They don't care about us. So, our dollars can be spent elsewhere from now on. Customer...
Read moreCasa de Fruta in Hollister is one of those classic Central California pit stops that feels part roadside market, part attraction. If you’re heading toward I-5, Los Baños, or deeper into the Central Valley, it’s a great spot to stretch your legs and grab something unique.
They’ve got a little bit of everything: fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, candies, and wines. The selection of dried fruit and chocolate-covered nuts is huge, and it’s fun to browse through all the local products you don’t usually see at a regular grocery store. The market itself has that old-school, rustic charm, and it feels like a throwback to road trips back in the day.
Parking is easy, and there’s plenty of space to walk around. They even have little attractions like the train and carousel if you’re rolling through with family. Prices are a little on the higher side compared to regular supermarkets, which is the main reason I’m leaving 4 stars instead of 5. But you’re really paying for the experience and the convenience of a clean, safe stop in the middle of a long drive.
Overall, Casa de Fruta is more than just a fruit stand — it’s a Central Valley road trip tradition. Definitely worth pulling over for a snack, a bathroom break, or just to walk around and check out the unique...
