We live in Portland and have visited the Tillamook cheese factory a dozen times over the years. Is it a total tourist trap? Yes. Is it crazy busy all the time? Pretty much. Are there long lines for overpriced goods every time you visit? Totally. Even though all these things are true, you gotta go. Tillamook has done an exceptional job in displaying educational and engaging information about where their ingredients are sourced and how their products are made. Part of the cheese factory is literally on display for all to see when visiting, from how the milk is heated to curd to how the cheese is stored to age to how it's packaged to sell to the general public. The self guided tour is super interesting and it is rare for a food manufacturer to open its doors for all to see their products, people and process. So just do it, check it out and know that it'll be busy and loud and there will be lines. It will be 100% worth it as the experience is so unique there's a reason that everyone wants to check it out.

We had been here years ago and this time we were surprised how much it had changed. It is bigger with restaurants and a gift store. There was a museum and the best part of all... You can see the factory action in real time! They have windows to see inside the factory and watch them actually make the cheese. There are signs explaining what machines and designated areas are for. Every step from the beginning all the way to chopping the cheese and packaging it, can be viewed by observers such as ourselves. We spent a good hour just watching and learning. Some of the employees waved at the kids and our kids went bananas. The food is delicious and the beef jerky is our all time favorite. We can’t wait to go...

I have been here twice now, and would have gone so many more times if it wasn’t far from my place. Free cheese tasting is what draws me here more than anything else :P The entire process of making the dairy products is well defined here, with simple installations of milking etc for visitor’s easy understanding! Liked it. Technology has reached its next level. I only felt bad for the cows in general, though they claim to keep them in healthy conditions. Their ice creams are definitely worth trying. I liked the simple cheese sandwich and tomato...
