As I arrived at the site of the Crags Hotel Ruins I thought I was going to be disappointed. The real ruins are not immediately evident from the sign along the trail. A little patience and poking around was rewarded with stone foundations, fireplaces and spectacular views.

It is hard to believe that this location was such a hot-spot back in 1908 through 1912 when it burned down. After ascending Rattlesnake Gulch Trail to get to the ruins it is difficult to imagine the trail was once a road that led to the hotel. I laughed at myself conjuring up the ride in a Model T instead of my elevated heart rate of a hike.

Take your time and stretch your imagination a bit while wandering around what is left...

Really interesting ruins of the historic Crag Hotel from 1908 - 1912. This is a stop on the out and back Rattlesnake Gulch hike, which is actually the historic road that autos took to get to the hotel (?!). The old cornerstone, fireplace, and some other ruins are still left (you can see where the courtyard fountain used to be). Respect the site and don’t move or take anything.

Spotted some wild turkeys near here as well. Lovely views from...

Nice hike with a great view of the other side of Eldorado Canyon. Like a few of the ruins along the front range, lightning struck, and the ensuing fire devastated this once lovely hotel. A sign there does show the layout of the place back in the day. ...
