Would you still plan a trip to the snow?? ☃️❄️ (Or are you over it? 😅) Well, we got sooo much snow this Winter that you still have a chance! 😬 | * toddler friendly * family travel * outdoors Back in January, my husband and I actually bought our sno-park season permit thinking we’d come back a few times. But then all the storms hit. 😳🌨️ Aaand we never went back. Here we are mid-April, though, and we still might be able to plan a couple more day trips! Here’s some info if you need it, too ⬇️ 📌 LOCATION: We like taking our kids to Donner Summit Sno-Park. It’s right off I-80 and a very easy drive to get to. Truckee is also close by, if you’d like options for food and shopping. Location is great for us 👍🏼 📌 PARKING: Downsides…Spaces are limited. Day use price is $15…BUT if you purchase a SEASON PERMIT, it’s only $40. You can then make multiple trips and even visit other sno-park locations in California. (valid until May 30, 2023) Also, parents with small children know just how convenient it is to go somewhere and get parking RIGHT THERE. 😅 We think it’s absolutely worth the price. We bought ours in person at REI, but you can also buy ahead online. 📌 WHAT TO DO: The sno-park is perfect for sledding and simply playing in the snow. Since our kids are still so young, that’s all we really need. It’s just an open play area, no skiers or snowboarders. You can also snow-shoe in this area! And yes, we did make instant ramen for a little car picnic after we were all done playing. It was an awesome way to warm up and fill up 😋🍜 FOLLOW FOR MORE ADVENTURE IDEAS 🚗 #california #explorecalifornia #visitcalifornia #californiablogger #californiaroadtrip #familytravel #travelingwithkids #travelingwithtoddlers #familyadventures #outdoors #cotopaxi #jetboil

This place was awesome! Super easy to get to (I get terrible motion sickness and didn't feel a thing on the drive there). We had to pre-pay for parking online and print them to show the ranger upon entry. Once you're in the park, you literally drive to the end of the road, stay right and park somewhere... anywhere that isn't blocking the road. Bring your own sled, skis, whatever you use for playing in the snow. Also, bring your own hot water, soap and food since there's no running water and no option to buy food once inside the park. P.s. Bring snow chains and go the suggested speed. Please don't be the person that poses an unnecessary risk to everyone. We saw so many overturned cars and multiple accidents on the drive up which lead to road closures. Praying for everyones safety!

This is a destination that you can visit any time of the year but if you do not visit in late winter you are missing out. The drive down route 80 after winter has dropped snow all winter is truly amazing. Every turn shows you another breath taking view of one of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet. When you reach the summit after visiting the beaches at San Francisco bay you just cannot believe the snow pack and scenery at the summit. This is our second time driving through the sierra and you can never get enough of this beauty.

In winter, it is very suitable for kids to play sledding (but not open enough, pay attention to the trees, rocks and creeks) and build snowmen. We played here twice during this Christmas vacation, and my kid loved it. It's free parking here, sometimes crowded.

Beautiful place to go to when you want to play in snow. Though it is crowded ( cause it is not as costly as some private places who loot money in the name of snow parks - it just needs a nominal fee - and most people even skip it) it has ample space to accommodate everyone and we can get a private area without crowd if lucky enough and enjoy snow in peace.

Snow shoeing on a nice warm day. Hiked 5 miles in the sun. Plenty of others skiing and hiking. Lots of up and up, you need to be in shape for this!
