The day after Christmas, we had to take our cat to the pet ER because his bladder was obstructed. Our vet was closed that day, so we didn’t have a choice. After spending so much $ getting him unobstructed and “stabilized,” they told us that he would need additional surgery to remove bladder stones! We truly thought we had to put our cat down because the pricing for this was astronomical! The ER told us the cheapest way to do it was to take him to a vet, because most vets can perform the surgery in the office. We had originally called our vet the following day to see if they could do the surgery same day, and they could not. My husband and I literally googled vets in our area to see if any vet could perform this surgery same day. Almost ALL of the vets said NO and that we would need an appointment in a few weeks because surgeries need to be scheduled. Two places told us that they could do the surgery same day, but there was no wiggle room with the pricing. We felt stuck and were losing hope. We called Essex Middle River Vet Center, and they told us that they had two doctors that could do the surgery same day! And that one doctor even volunteered to do it during her lunch break. I was overwhelmed with gratitude! After finding out the cost for this procedure, I told them we just realistically couldn’t afford it. I told them what we could pay, and they were able to work with us, and get it in our price range using a special fund. They justified that it’s the holiday season, and that they get it! I am so grateful for this vet clinic. They were able to squeeze our cat in for emergency surgery, so we could get him out of the ER. And we were able to get him home after the surgery. The vet, tech, and receptionist were so kind. You can tell they truly care! We are so...
Read moreWe moved to Essex from Owings Mills 6 years ago and went to Essex vet a few times and consistently had expensive and terrible service. Because of this, we drive out to our vet in Reisterstown. Today, I tried to give Essex a chance and it solidified my decision to keep going to Reisterstown. I checked out of my dog's appointment, signed my receipt and was told my dog would be right out. Almost 25 minutes later I had to call and ask where my dog was and was told "sorry about that, he will be right out." When I asked what took so long, I was told that there was an emergency and no one was able to bring him out, even though there were two people sitting at the front desk while I waited, and one was the person that brought my dog out.
I get in my car and my dog is wheezing and coughing. He sometimes does this when I pull on his leash so I waited to see if he would stop and he didn't, so I checked his collar. I couldn't even fit my pinky between the collar and my dog's neck. I tell one of the employees at the door and she goes to get a different size. The other collar was too large so I asked for a refund, which was given. She stated that my dog had no problem in the back with the collar on, but to be quite honest, there's no way that is true. I got home and measured my dog and his neck is 18.5 inches in circumference and that was with a tight fitting measure, not with the recommended 1 to 2 fingers. The cone they used, 17 cm, which fits dogs neck circumference of 15.4 inches, max Instead of letting me know that they had a collar that was too small or one that was a little too big, they put the small one on and acted like I could have been mistaken when I complained. Thanks for the refund at least, making my appt $102...
Read moreThis place ruined my dog's ability to see a vet. He is 5 and has been going here for his whole life. In the beginning he was happy to go to the vet but over the years he's been slowly traumatized and I didn't realize it until it was too late. At our last visit, they took him in the back to do nail trims and who knows what else. I heard him screaming bloody murder for about 10 minutes. When he came back the doctor was very short and told me he was really difficult to work with and that he was muzzled on his last visit. EXCUSE ME!?!? No one told me they were muzzling him out of sight of me. The doctor then muzzled him, gave him his vaccines while he fought the whole time. The doctor did no other exams and told me nothing about my dogs health but instead ended the visit. I was still in shock they were muzzling my dog and so we went home without a proper visit and just beat up. This year I decided to go somewhere else; however, he is so traumatized from Essex Middle River Vet that he won't let a tech or a vet anywhere near him and has severe aggression. We tried two visits at this new vet and they didn't even charge me for either visit because they could see how traumatized he is. My only option is now complete sedation exams. I'm afraid he's ruined for life and this will shorten his lifespan because he can't get help if he needs it. Also it bears mentioning this dog is amazing. He goes to work with me and meets tons of people everyday. He's hiked mountains, goes stand up paddle boarding and just does almost anything I ask of him. He has zero aggression towards anyone else and gives snuggles to anyone coming to say hi. My heart is broken. He did not...
