Awesome kayaking experience at Weeki Wachee! For those trying to find it: when you turn off Shoal Line Blvd, take an immediate right, then go just past the closed restaurant (check my photos in the review for reference). The kayak rental building is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention—look for a building with two garage doors, a regular door, and a blue and gold dolphin above one of the garage doors. It also has a sign that says "Kayaks & Attractions."
Parking is free, and the staff will guide you exactly where to park, which makes arrival simple and easy.
At check-in, you’ll fill out a quick liability form. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and they even held onto my car keys during the trip. There’s a clean bathroom, a souvenir shop, and cold drinks available too. This is the only area I think they could improve check in and check out to be a little smoother.
Paddling tips: After launching, head down the canal and take the first left at the end of the canal to begin paddling upstream. Always stay to the right as you go. When you pass Rogers Park on your left, do not go under the bridge—stay right to continue upstream.
On the return trip, when you see Rogers Park again, take a left, paddle toward the giraffe statue, and then take a right into the launch area.
The paddling experience? Incredible. Weeki Wachee River is absolutely stunning. The water is so clear you can see fish swimming below you, and you’re surrounded by lush vegetation, wildlife, and peaceful scenery the entire way. It truly feels like paddling through a tropical paradise.
Just be prepared—paddling upstream is a workout. We rented for 4 hours and spent 2 hours going upstream, with only 1 hour coming back down thanks to the strong current. That return trip is a breeze, though—just sit back and enjoy the ride!
Helpful tips:
Bring a Ziploc bag or waterproof pouch for your phone and electronics
Pack a couple of bottles of water
Wear sunscreen—the Florida sun is intense
Bring a change of clothes in case you swim or get splashed
And remember: when another boat is approaching, always keep to the right—just like driving!
Between the natural beauty, helpful staff, and relaxing float back, this was one of the best kayaking trips I’ve ever had. Highly recommend to anyone...
Read more11/10 would recommend! My experience with this whole business has been nothing but great! They were incredibly patient, kind, supportive and very friendly ! I let them know ahead of time that I have a very big fear of being in merky water and I wanted to know how long it would take to get out of the merky water and into the springs. They are VERY close to the springs, basically right next to Rogers Park. Which is the trail end of the Weeki Wachee Springs. You’re only going through one “canal” which is just where you’re launching off at and it’s a very small “canal”. Once you make a big turn to your left you’re already in Rogers Park which is a Park that people use as a “beach” and swim all in it, so my fear only lasted about maybe a good five minutes but the rest of the six hours we were in the Springs it was completely clear and AMAZING. Yes I understand people get annoyed that you’re going up stream but it’s honestly a really fun workout and so worth it because the Weeki Wachee Springs is crowded, you’re just going to be bumper to bumper, or you might not even get in because it is always booked far in advance. Then the ride back is literally cut in like 2/3 because you’re going down stream so you just float down and all you have to worry about is steering. The “paperwork” is literally one single piece of paper it takes like three signatures. The process was simple and we were not rushed. I even originally booked two singles and we decided there, that we wanted a double instead of two singles. The refund process was simple and I didn’t feel like a problem at all. And keep in mind this was on Labor Day weekend. Will definitely be coming here from...
Read moreGreat experience. Able to book online the day before. Started getting helped as soon as I drove up. I hadn't even parked yet and someone came out to help me. I went with my 2 kids, and they took care of us and got us in the water right away. They explained which way to go, how to get back, and give you an idea of a good time to turn around. Life jackets included. Kayaks in good condition, and plenty of them. We did a single and a double kayak. The double was very comfortable, we each had our own leg room. They have their own parking and you launch from their shop. They also have bathrooms, snacks, and souvenirs. It's also close to the Upper Deck restaurant. If you're there, you have to stop at Upper Deck. It was our first time kayaking, but we will be back. We saw that they allow dogs, so next time we're bringing our water loving dog. By the way, if you use KayaKing, you can kayak the Weeki Wachi without having to drive into the state park. The park itself fills up early and advanced registration or booking is required to kayak from there. But if you launch from KayaKing, you can access the waterway without the hassle. First you'll row upstream, then when you turn around, you're going downstream the whole way. Highly recommend and will be...
