it was pretty dead when I went on wednesday (which i think is a good test - going midweek to see what it is like at its worst can show how well the businesses there will fare on average). we spotted maybe 2 benches total and like 3 other people, one of whom was an employee. there was a man in a wheelchair who only had the one path to go on - he seemed to have difficulty getting around and had limited options simply because on one side near the metro the sidewalk truncated abruptly. not enough public space or seating and no space for people on bikes. very nearly all of the outdoor seating is behind fencing which is in stark contrast to the metropolis it seems to imitate: DC; this makes the space feel sterile and prisony. the types of businesses were not bad and it could be better with a grocery store and some other employers and definitely tons of more housing to fuel these stores demand. it seems very much like a mall with some facades of urban living rather than an actual urban area that has life - like a cheap imitation rather than someplace that is actually alive. it needs clinics, schools, childcare, and just generally more services that allow it to be a liveable area rather than just someplace to go to on a Friday. it seems set up to fail because it doesn't have enough customers built in with nearby residences and it has way too much parking for its proximity to a metro in addition to the lack of the aforementioned services. the closeness to the metro, while an asset, is being very underplayed; it would be more pleasant if there was more bike infrastructure as well as a larger grid of streets to go to, as well as some public art and more interactive businesses like arcades, pottery shops, and more family oriented developments like a daycare or a playground. it's a good skeleton, but it's just that: a skeleton as of now. I would love to see this grow into someplace more lively and worth being in beyond just a weekend evening. even something as simple as string lights across the street between the buildings would help bring this to life a lot, especially in the holiday season. I'm sure Ashburn will aggressively upzone the area so it doesn't feel like a ghost town but right now it really is not adequate to facilitate large amounts of commercial and residential foot and bike traffic, much less car traffic. I am well aware it's suburban but...
Read moreWe leased in the Commons building for about a year and a half or so, and we loved our stay at BLVD. The amenities and close proximity to the Silver Line, shopping center, and local schools were a big plus for us.
The one thing that shined above all else was the responsiveness and professionalism of the leasing office staff and maintenance crew. If anything went wrong in the apartment at all, we always had someone up to fix it within hours, and it was corrected the first time.
Questions and other issues were always answered quickly by the Leasing Office staff. They have a very friendly and professional group that went above and beyond to help us whenever we needed it. Every issue we had was handled with urgency, even if it wasn't incredibly serious.
Lori really deserves her own mention here. As wonderful as the staff on site was, she shined above all others. All our interactions with her were awesome, and she would always stop to say hello to us by name when we crossed paths in the Gramercy building. She went really out of her way to provide solutions for us when some package delivery problems popped up, and was the model of professionalism and empathy.
We needed to move away from the area for a work opportunity but always said we'd come back to BLVD if things changed for us. No place is perfect, and while we did lease from a few properties in the area, but BLVD was certainly our favorite. No place is perfect, but BLVD has a lot of things going for it that other places in Ashburn don't. If you're undecided about leasing in the area, you really ought to give this place...
