We stayed for two nights with our pups for our anniversary. The small touches were appreciated. Each pup had their own dog bowl, got to share a bag of treats, a dog runner was provided outside, and a s'mores kit was left for my wife and I to enjoy. We we're a little displeased with the location of our spot. I'm not sure if it's similar to a hotel where all dogs are grouped together, but we shared a cul-de-sac like location with three other cabins. While most dogs may be social, our rescues can be timid and bark at other dogs. This can be a stressful experience for the humans when there is another dog 40 or so feet away.
Overall comfort of our trip was OK. The running water was appreciated. The beds could have used a pillow top and we were not provided a top sheet, just a comforter. If I had known, I would have brought these items from home. While we totally understand this is a version of camping, we would anticipate a little more comfort for the price tag.
The topography of the campsite was surprising. Where we were located, we were on top of the hill with the lake and other sites beneath us. While we did not see our neighbors below, being so high up didn't allow us to fully enjoy a campfire on the first night because of high winds. The firepits were right on the ground with about a 4-inch lip. I suggest modifying the firepits up top to allow for more coverage from the wind.
There were plenty of aesthetically pleasing signs around the campsite - road names, cabin names, no swimming, no fishing, etc. You can tell Getaway cares a lot about their brand with these small touches. However, there were no signs telling my wife and I that the trail behind the lake went absolutely no where. The trail looked well maintained for at least .3 - .5 miles, but then turned into an overgrown mess in someone's backyard. We we're thinking the trail would loop around the backside of the site putting us somewhere near our cabin at the top of the hill. It was an exciting adventure, until it wasn't and we had to turn around. I suggest putting some signage at that location indicating this is not a trail that should be used.
Getaway Asheborro is an aesthetically pleasing place. The cabin was cute, the big window overlooking the trees was beautiful, the running water was a plus, and the little extras were appreciated. However, we feel our experience fell a little flat with the location of our cabin, overall comfort, and general experience for such a high price tag. This might be worth it in the $150 a night category, but certainly not...
Read moreThis was absolutely one of the best birthday getaway experiences I’ve had in a while.
I was given the Marmie cabin. There was a beautiful view of the wooded area, and the sun gleamed in through the picture window so beautifully during the day.
I took the time to walk the provided trails, listening and viewing the beauty of God’s creation. It was wonderful!
I paid the extra fee for the fire wood w/starter. It was preset for me, which was great. Unfortunately, it rained earlier in the day & into the afternoon so the wood was wet.
The next night I lit the firewood, but there was too much moisture so it created lots of smoke, but barely any fire. I was disappointed but not to the point of it being a negative experience. Weather will weather lol.
Since I’d already paid the $25, I took the wood home to dry out & use later.
Upon arrival, the cabin was clean, but had a weird odor. Using my disinfectant I wiped down surfaces and sprayed some Odoban. This helped until…I turned on the heat.
Anytime the heat (at night) or ac(during the day) turned on the cabin smelt like a musty dog. I thought it was just the unit’s filter needing replacement, but I leaned down to pick up my shoe and the entire floor smelled like a musty dog.
I lit a candle. I sprayed the Odoban constantly. Eventually I just left the unit off. By the morning of my departure the dog smelled was becoming more prevalent. Luckily, I was checking out.
As some have mentioned, the water pressure is not the best. However, it gets the job done. (I may be partial though bc I am a small woman.)
I appreciated the closeness of the cabins. I felt safer knowing that my neighbors could hear me yell out if there was an emergency.
The close proximity of shopping, grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc was a bonus. I felt like I was glamping, which as a former Girl Scout was a plus.
Be aware that the roads in this area are steep and full of hills, especially on the actual property leading to the cabins. Make sure your vehicle is in good working order.
In my opinion, this is not a place for children or large dogs, as the space is limited. It’s very small, yet cozy. I would recommend this place for solo or romantic getaways.
I was able to book this cabin using a discount. For the price I paid, it was worth it. I do not think the price w/o the discount is worth...
Read moreNegatives: I was pretty disappointed when arriving at the Asheboro cabins, and had difficulty between choosing 3 or 4 stars for my review. I had no idea that these little getaway cabins were going to be stacked on top of each other. We were staying next to a couple with a crying baby. We didn’t take a “getaway” to be surrounded by wining kids. When outside the cabin, you can easily see other cabins. There was not as much privacy as I thought there would be. During our campfires, we could easily see the cabin to the other side of us and their campfire as well. The cabins are so close that you can hear other people’s conversations (someone was arguing on the phone) as well as other’s music - it didn’t make it feel like a getaway into nature. You can also see and hear every car that drives by & every car can see you- it’s worst at night bc of the bright headlights. My hopes for this trip was to experience solitude and peace within nature. I’m not sure how other getaway cabins are but I know I have no desire to visit the one in Asheboro again.
Positives: We needed an extra fire starter the second night. Using the phone provided and calling was easy, and we received what we needed quickly. I was glad that the mattress was comfy and the shower stayed warm when washing up. I appreciated the recommendation list provided by Getaway Cabins and their personalized welcome note. The best part was the dog treats left for our fur baby when arriving. Two recommendations I have that wasn’t on their list is to visit the Millstone Creek Orchards (we got to pick our own pumpkins, eat freshly made apple cider donuts and drink freshly pressed apple cider). For our groceries, we visited Lowe’s Foods which is more of a local grocery store instead of Food Lion, which they recommended. Overall, we had a decent time but would not return to the...
