Challenging hike. Great View. This is a location that can be reached from the Seneca Rocks discovery center or from the Sites homestead parking lot. It is not for the faint of heart but if you take your time you can make it. If you start from the visitor’s center it is about a 1.5 mile walk. It starts out as a gradual trail across the 2 rivers and then through the forest on a gradual beginning. DO not let that fool you as the path zig zags up the side of the hills through the forest. The switchbacks get continuously shorter. There are 3 zigzags during the steep part. The path is at least 4 feet wide through most of the hike. It took us about hour to go up the entire path to the platform. Glad we stuck it out as it is well worth the walk to see the view. The interesting thing is it ends in a wooden platform that juts out from the rocks. SO it is a view of the valley, visitors center and town below but not of the ricks. In fact the rocks themselves are hard to see from the viewing platform. There are signs that say to not go beyond the platform onto the rocks but we saw several people coming back from beyond that area. Please be safe. The walk down is, obviously much easier. I highly recommend this hike and view to anyone...

The trail entrance was easy to find with a large parking lot and a pit toilet. There is plenty of info at the Trailhead about the hike, how to be prepared, and what to expect. The trail itself is not blazed, but obvious enough to easily follow. There are informational signs along the trail, mostly near the beginning, about the geography, history, and botany you can see. The hike was easy to moderate with no rock scrambling required (unless you choose to ignore the warning at the top, in which case, please be extremely careful. That picture is not worth your life). The views are fantastic and serve as a nice reward for your efforts. There are a few access trails for rock climbers that are well labeled. In an unusually dry November, I did not see any water source beyond the river. There are no designated camping sites. There was no fee to access the trail or...

Very easy to find and was a normal trail to climb with some elevation. It started raining, so we couldn't make it to the top. That is why I only have photos from below.

They have a Visitor Center, but it was closed due to COVID. Going during the week was the best as hardly anyone around. Review the maps as there are 2 parking areas. We took the one on the backend of the Center since it was closest to the trailhead.

There is a store across the street so you can get water or other essentials before climbing. Near the trailhead is an observation area and picnic tables.

That centipede in one of the photos was a very colorful one and there were several on the trail. However, don't pick it up as it has a defense of a cyanide type chemical it releases. Never pick up stuff unless you know what...

You’ll want to add this West Virginia gem to your bucket list asap! Seneca Rocks is a 900-ft jutting rock formation in Eastern WV, and a must-see! You can view it from below, or take a short (yet steep) hike to the observation platform at the top. 👉🏼Fun fact: there used to be a pinnacle in that central notch called the “Gendarme,” but it fell in 1987. Visit the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center for more fascinating information about the geology and history of this place! 🤯 [📌Save for your future trip!] 📍Seneca Rocks Trail ~3 miles, depending on where you park ~900 ft elevation gain -Rated moderate ⚠️Going out onto the rocks is “at your own risk,” so use judgement. The area is actually 10 feet wide, so not as narrow as it appears. ❤️Please do your part to leave no trace. There’s a trash bin at the trailhead to dispose of any garbage. Avoid cutting switchbacks to prevent damaging fragile plant life. 👉🏼Share this with someone who would love to go and follow @krismariawanders for more West Virginia gems! 💎
