Very recommended!!! We went yesterday and had lots of fun. I’ll brief step by step.
Check-in: You have to go to the North Lodge to check-in. There you can purchase logs with cash or credit card. You can also buy logs at camp post but you will need to pay cash. Lots of snacks and drinks as well.
Going to the campground: as a first-timer, this was a bit confusing as their map doesn’t exactly tell you where the entrance is. But it’s not too hard. You get out of out the North Lodge parking where you came in from. When you exist the parking lot, there is an entrance to the campground to the right, I’d say within 20 feet?
Campground: we stayed in 110. It depends on your preferences, but I always prefer way inward of any campground where there isn’t a lot of traffic. The spot was nice because the driveway is a loop and only one way is possible.
Setting up your tent: I realized that it was hard to find a leveled flat ground to set up our tent. But your “unit” should be big enough and there has to be flat ground. Some flat grounds have shrubs underneath so it creates extra cushion and cold ground insulation.
Bathroom: only pit toilets are available. For those who don’t know, pit toilets are just like the porta-potties. Make sure to bring a wet nap to wipe the cover. Other than the stinky pit, overall bathroom is quite clean! There is no sink in the bathroom FYI
Water: there are water valves available near units. I’m not sure it’s drinkable but definitely clean enough to wash. (Obviously no hot water)
Fire pit: they have very nice metal fire pit. Make sure to gather nicely dried wooden bits to start fire. You might need them quite a lot because ITS SUPER WINDY. And I don’t think you need to purchase firewood because there are quite a lot of big dried wooden chunks and pine cones everywhere. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Make sure to extinguish fire completely with water. You might need to use some 4~6 gallons to not hear any sizzling sound.
Getting out of the campground: Remember, if you are staying in a loop driveway, you must turn so that you don’t run into oncoming traffic!!
Check-out: you don’t need to do anything to check out. Make sure to clean everything for the next people. You just drive out, no need to stop by the North Lodge...
Read moreGreat campground. Wish they described the campsites better for those that have never been there and only see online pictures. Reserved site #44 for 7 peeps and 2 cars. This campsite only fits maybe 2 tiny tents and fits 2 compact cars. Campsite is on a slope olunless you dig which we should have to do that. Ended up getting a First come First serve site #50 in the same loop. #50 was very spacious with more then plenty of room for our 4 tents that fit up to 6 people each. We were able to set up 2 changing tents that we use for shower too. The parking fit my suburban and a toyota tundra perfect with space to wiggle. Unfortunately we only used site #44 for parking. We had already paid for it and this issue, we didn't discovered until we got there. Because of this we call and extra vehicle for the late arrival instead of picking him up after work. #50 has great forest and desert views. Those where you can drink your favorite drink to. Hiking loop trail is just there, less then 20 feet away. Restroom, right next to campground. Water spigot, across your driveway in front of the restroom. The campground was very clean, restroom where attended to very frequently by staff. Mountain high host do a phenomenal job. We were there July 31st-August 4th. As we walked this campground, now we have an idea of the sites to pick next time. Don't rely on pictures. Read reviews with descriptions. The only review I read for #44 was not good enough. Oh well....
Read moreMy friends and family camp here every year, and it’s always such a treat. Nestled in the Angeles National Forest, this campground sits in a hilly, forested area surrounded by oak and pine trees, with two spacious meadows and sweeping views of the nearby mountains and desert.
The setting is perfect for hiking and biking, and the campground is especially well-known for its disc golf course if you’re into that. Cell service is spotty (fair warning), but it adds to the charm. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the sunsets are absolutely breathtaking.
Reservations are highly recommended, especially for weekends, as this spot is popular. The camp hosts are fantastic, super friendly, helpful, and always willing to share tips. On top of that, there’s a cozy lodge that hosts live music on weekends and a big outdoor space with games to keep everyone entertained.
If you want a break from campfire cooking, the nearby town is just 2.4 miles away, with bars and restaurants with some offering live music, especially during the summer.
Whether you’re looking for adventure or a peaceful escape from city life, this campground checks all the boxes....
