Update: There is no longer paid/day usage of the area. You can park outside off the road but can no longer drive over the bridge to be close to the hot springs. This is due to the fact that so many people came and trashed the springs. The bathrooms were filled with trash and due to the sheer number of visitors is difficult to be maintained in addition to people being careless. Hopefully now that the day usage area has been blocked off this will make things better. Springs are still great when visiting off peak hours.
Hot springs are easily accessible from the parking lot but can be crowded. Paid parking will get you closer but you can park outside of the campground and walk in. There is a large hot spring in the center of the campgrounds but was too hot for soaking when we visited. The majority of the hot springs are located at the end of the campgrounds with several hot spring pools of varying sizes located next to the river. The hot springs in this area give you water fall features and the ability to jump from hot to cold water and back making it unique. This area can get crowded due to the accessibility and located within a campground. People are generally welcoming about sharing the hot springs with strangers as everyone is there to enjoy the...
Read moreI absolutely adore this place but it's really gone downhill since I first found out about it, you can't be going to nature hot spots in Idaho if you're not going to be respectful of the "pack it in pack it out" rule, as well as many other aspects that should be just basic common sense, bringing things that will cause trash? Bring a bag in preparation for said trash and actually BRING IT WITH YOU when you leave, if y'all keep disrespecting lovely spots like this they're straight up going to get taken away, even local authorities had to make a post ab the concerns with how disrespectful folks are. If we do not respect the nice things we have we will no longer be allowed those nice things, and don't ruin the experience for others, you wanna listen to music? But there's lots of other people? At least keep it at a respectable level, if it's just you who cares, but not everyone shares your taste and it's not all about you. And I'm not saying don't outright listen to music, ask the other patrons if they mind or keep it at a moderate volume so people can still enjoy their own vibes at the very least. I was born and raised here and taught to respect my surroundings, it's disappointing to hear how arrogant some people are to...
Read moreGrowing up in Idaho, Kirkham has always been one of my top spots for hot springs. The parking is a breeze, access is relatively safe, and once upon a time, it was not overwhelmingly busy. Unfortunately, much has changed in the last few years and this is no longer the case. My last visit was more than unpleasant. Trash littered the ground in and around the restroom area. The parking area is a mere walk away from the restroom. Why would anyone dump their garbage all over the ground when they could easily walk it back to their car?? Additionally, people were sardined in the hot spring area. I have always felt that it was an unspoken rule to give a certain amount of space to the people in the hot springs around you. If the area feels full, you wait in your car for someone to leave, or go elsewhere. The purpose for most hot spring visitors is to relax and enjoy the solitude of nature, not to sit knee to knee in an outdoor bath with strangers.
As an Idaho native, it pains my heart to see Kirkham in such a state, and sadly, I do not see myself returning...
