About a 2 hour drive from Boise, and absolutely worth every minute. The drive is scenic and beautiful, and the destination, even more so. We saw deer and multiple herds of elk grazing along the mountain side on both the way there and back. Although the windy mountain roads definitely frighten me, the hot spring at the end is worth (literally) climbing mountains for. It’s a short hike down but very close the highway. The rocks are both scarp and slippery, so keep an eye on your footing. There’s few facilities, so be sure to bring a backpack with your own toiletries and snacks. You could easily spend hours here. Not sure if I’d bring the kids, just because of the steepness of the (granted very short) hike, but lots of people had kids with them. Definitely recommend, I’ve been to hot springs all over the USA and this one is absolutely one worth checking out.

More people there than I had expected for a cloudy weekday visit but not "crowded". There's probably 5 or 6 pools deep enough to sit in so it could probably comfortably accommodate 12-15 people at a time. The couple pools seemed to be the best suited (deep enough for sitting) at first glance, but we went to the bottom right next to the river and spent a few minutes building up and repairing holes in the retaining wall (plugging up holes with rocks so stop cold river water from leaking in) and it ended up being probably the most comfortable spot since we could easily regulate the temperature and preventing the pool from getting too hot. The parking fee is $5 but it seemed like no one else was paying (?) since there were several cars in the lot when we got there but ours was the first envelope to go into the box... so maybe it's free this time of year?

A pretty view w nice springs. Water is pretty hot so it’s a lot nicer to soak in it during the winter. Don’t go during the day or you’ll feel like your overheating especially when the days get warmer. I recommend going during cold nights/winter. Watch out for BIG rocks during the drive up. I’d you have a small car you’ll probably want to find a truck or a lifted vehicle as some rocks that fall are pretty big and can ruin the bottom of your small car. Also DONT use the bathroom that’s there it’s not maintained at ALL. SUPER SUPER dirty (picture for reference). PLEASE pick up after yourself and don’t be dirty! There was poop smothered on the walls and diapers in the springs! Come on folks don’t be gross. I recommend going to the bathroom before you head to the springs so you don’t have to go when you’re there!

Update: There is no longer paid/day usage of the area. You can park outside off the road but can no longer drive over the bridge to be close to the hot springs. This is due to the fact that so many people came and trashed the springs. The bathrooms were filled with trash and due to the sheer number of visitors is difficult to be maintained in addition to people being careless. Hopefully now that the day usage area has been blocked off this will make things better. Springs are still great when visiting off peak hours.

Hot springs are easily accessible from the parking lot but can be crowded. Paid parking will get you closer but you can park outside of the campground and walk in. There is a large hot spring in the center of the campgrounds but was too hot for soaking when we visited. The majority of the hot springs are located at the end of the campgrounds with several hot spring pools of varying sizes located next to the river. The hot springs in this area give you water fall features and the ability to jump from hot to cold water and back making it unique. This area can get crowded due to the accessibility and located within a campground. People are generally welcoming about sharing the hot springs with strangers as everyone is there to enjoy the...

I absolutely adore this place but it's really gone downhill since I first found out about it, you can't be going to nature hot spots in Idaho if you're not going to be respectful of the "pack it in pack it out" rule, as well as many other aspects that should be just basic common sense, bringing things that will cause trash? Bring a bag in preparation for said trash and actually BRING IT WITH YOU when you leave, if y'all keep disrespecting lovely spots like this they're straight up going to get taken away, even local authorities had to make a post ab the concerns with how disrespectful folks are. If we do not respect the nice things we have we will no longer be allowed those nice things, and don't ruin the experience for others, you wanna listen to music? But there's lots of other people? At least keep it at a respectable level, if it's just you who cares, but not everyone shares your taste and it's not all about you. And I'm not saying don't outright listen to music, ask the other patrons if they mind or keep it at a moderate volume so people can still enjoy their own vibes at the very least. I was born and raised here and taught to respect my surroundings, it's disappointing to hear how arrogant some people are to...

Growing up in Idaho, Kirkham has always been one of my top spots for hot springs. The parking is a breeze, access is relatively safe, and once upon a time, it was not overwhelmingly busy. Unfortunately, much has changed in the last few years and this is no longer the case. My last visit was more than unpleasant. Trash littered the ground in and around the restroom area. The parking area is a mere walk away from the restroom. Why would anyone dump their garbage all over the ground when they could easily walk it back to their car?? Additionally, people were sardined in the hot spring area. I have always felt that it was an unspoken rule to give a certain amount of space to the people in the hot springs around you. If the area feels full, you wait in your car for someone to leave, or go elsewhere. The purpose for most hot spring visitors is to relax and enjoy the solitude of nature, not to sit knee to knee in an outdoor bath with strangers.

As an Idaho native, it pains my heart to see Kirkham in such a state, and sadly, I do not see myself returning...
