George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital — Attraction in Cumberland Township

This was a very fun way to experience a Gettysburg field hospital. The clothing, the "artifacts," and people were great. Our favorites were the photographers, the smoke house, and the police. Don't miss those!

Docents were a little hit and miss, but overall were very entertaining. A couple groups ignored us when we walked up (as they were engaged in conversation amongst themselves), and others were a little overzealous...I thanked one for his time because he'd been talking a long time and my kids were getting antsy in the heat. He then informed me very sternly that he wasn't done and continued to talk 😂 Overall a very fun experience (and a good lesson to my kids about social awareness)!

Tip: We bought the friends of Gettysburg membership so we wouldn't be rushed by doing the museum and this in the same day. Plus there are a lot of other...

I have been going to Gettysburg for 25 years & this was a new adventure for me. The Spangler Farm barn was a field hospital & in the future there will be even more to see as they remodel the family home. An interesting aspect of the visit is that they give you bio cards of 5 people there: doctors, nurses, wounded soldiers, etc. I knew Gen.
