A poignant reminder of the many men who perished in service of their state and country, with all the states who had troops who fought, including Kentucky, Missouri, and Maryland. It was erected sometime after the last confirmed Confederate veteran died in 1957, which is somewhat hard to imagine. In any case, leave the politics at home, just respect those who served and died, as well as admire the great sculpture from an Italian...

The monument to the Soldiers and Sailors of the Confederacy was erected to honor all members of the Confederate armed forces. The bronze flag bearer stands on a base of granite that is inscribed with the names of each state that contributed men to the Confederacy, including the border states of Missouri, Maryland and Kentucky. The monument was sculpted by Donald DeLue, who also created the Mississippi and Louisiana monuments...
