The monument to the State of Arkansas is southwest of Gettysburg on West Confederate Avenue. The monument was dedicated in 1966. The monument stands where the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment formed part of Robertson’s Texas Brigade for the assault on July 2nd, 1863. Arkansas provided only one regiment to the Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Gettysburg. The Third Arkansas Infantry numbered about 480 men at the battle. They lost 41 killed, 101 wounded, and 40 missing, over one third of the men engaged. It was the smallest state contingent and the smallest number of casualties for any Confederate state at the battle. The inside of the outline of the state reads: “The grateful people of the State of Arkansas erect this memorial as an expression of their pride in the officers and men of the Third Arkansas Infantry Confederate States Army, who by their valor and their blood have made this ground...

Amazing. Would love to actually see it in person one day. Being a proud Arkansan & Son of the South Im amazed that I'm just now finding out about this because I accidentally stumbles across it while playing around on maps. Much respect to PA for this. Would love it if someone sees this & happens to be there, if they could type up what the text says that is inside the Arkansas outline side of it & post it here. i can't seem to get a clear image of that side for...

The Arkansas Monument might be plain in the Gettysburg Battlefield National Park. But I was most moved by watching a respectful young man who proudly put up a Confederate flag in the front. The US brothers from both North and South fought the bloody war 157 years ago, for the ideas we still arguing today. No matter we agree on those ideas, we should still remember the brave soldiers who sacrificed and stood for...

I appreciated what the other reviewer said about seeing a young man place a flag in front of it, and to respect those who died in the Bloody Brother War. No matter the politics, the soldiers were mostly poor farmers who fought out of duty or conscription. The Arkansas Monument is one of the last ones on Confederate Avenue before it turns to Little around Top across the other crossroad. Worth a stop, of course.
