The monument to the State of Arkansas is southwest of Gettysburg on West Confederate Avenue. The monument was dedicated in 1966. The monument stands where the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment formed part of Robertson’s Texas Brigade for the assault on July 2nd, 1863. Arkansas provided only one regiment to the Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Gettysburg. The Third Arkansas Infantry numbered about 480 men at the battle. They lost 41 killed, 101 wounded, and 40 missing, over one third of the men engaged. It was the smallest state contingent and the smallest number of casualties for any Confederate state at the battle.
