Gettysburg was amazing. To see the battleground, to walk the fields, to hear the breeze blowing through the grass and the trees. It was something I will never forget. To just take a second and imagine yourself there as brother against brother, father against son fought against each other… It was a dark part of American history but it is a part of American history we can never forget. We cannot erase our past, we must remember and tell others so that we will not repeat it. Let us everyday remember that these battles were fought right here on American soil. The blood, sweat and tears were shed for the freedom of those that were hurting and oppressed. We must not forget, let us look upon these historic lands not with sadness but with a feeling of never giving up what they fought and died for… Let those who died on that battlefield and all across this land not of died in vain. #gettysburg #Civilwar #Deckertogether
Very impressive monument to the State of Pennsylvania's contributions to the war. Climbing to the top of the monument allows for panoramic views of the battlefields and monuments at Gettysburg. The area surrounding the monument is well maintained. Given the size of this monument there is a dedicated parking area and restrooms. Definitely a must-do at Gettysburg. We recommend listening to the audio tour portion to gain a better understanding of the area.
This is a monument created by the state of Pennsylvania to honor its veterans who served in the battle of Gettysburg which lists each veteran by regiment. There is no cost and it is visible from a long distance on the battlefield due to the size of the monument. It is possible to walk to the top through a narrow and winding staircase But the view from the top is well worth the effort. There are portable toilets nearby otherwise no facilities
This place is such a sight to behold! It was a weekday when I came here yet it was still crowded. When I came there were multiple field trips at the same time. An entire field school was coming down when I was going up. It was worth the wait however. One of the best views at the park! If you don’t mind the claustrophobic stairwell, I highly recommend going up there. It is still amazing, even from down there! One of my favorite spots here.
Nice place. This place is actually a series of monuments, landmarks of the history. So you can use either cycle, scooter, walk or car as well to go to each monument. This place has enough information to get idea what happened in the war. I recommend every family to go there and experience glorious past. If you can bring some snacks, anti mosquito cream, water that would be very good. You can play some family group games also.
I grew up just over the border in Elmira Heights, NY but am nowaMichigan resident. At 63, this was my 1st visit to Gettysburg. What a moving experience overall. It was 95 degrees, so imaging what soldiers clad in wool uniforms, marching in to battle, must have endured. The shear number of names on this monument is moving. I was choked up. I have kin that served, but I need to do additional homework to see if any were here.
