A Beautiful and Powerful Tribute to History
Our visit to the State of Pennsylvania Monument in Gettysburg was truly memorable. My husband, daughter, and I were struck by the perfect blend of history and beauty that this monument offers. As the largest monument on the battlefield, it commands attention from the moment you arrive, but what makes it even more special is the level of detail and craftsmanship.
Walking around the monument, we were in awe of the intricate sculptures and inscriptions honoring the Pennsylvania regiments that fought in the battle. The sense of history is tangible, and it’s easy to imagine the significance of this location during one of the most pivotal moments in American history.
One of the highlights was climbing to the top. The view from above is breathtaking, offering a panoramic look at the battlefield. It gives you a unique perspective on the landscape and really helps bring the history to life. We spent quite a bit of time up there just taking it all in.
The monument is well-maintained and provides plenty of opportunities to read, reflect, and appreciate the sacrifices made here. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a meaningful stop in Gettysburg, this is absolutely worth visiting. It’s both humbling and inspiring. We left with a deeper appreciation for the history of this place and for those who fought here. Highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreGettysburg was amazing. To see the battleground, to walk the fields, to hear the breeze blowing through the grass and the trees. It was something I will never forget. To just take a second and imagine yourself there as brother against brother, father against son fought against each other… It was a dark part of American history but it is a part of American history we can never forget. We cannot erase our past, we must remember and tell others so that we will not repeat it. Let us everyday remember that these battles were fought right here on American soil. The blood, sweat and tears were shed for the freedom of those that were hurting and oppressed. We must not forget, let us look upon these historic lands not with sadness but with a feeling of never giving up what they fought and died for… Let those who died on that battlefield and all across this land not of died in vain. #gettysburg #Civilwar...
Read moreAs a son of the South and descendant of a Confederate veteran, I appreciate the sacrifices made by both sides of the Civil War. This monument stands as a testament to this sad and important period in our nation's history. Hundreds upon hundreds of names of those killed in the bloodiest battle of the war line the outer walls, a sobering reminder of the cost of this conflict and the toll it took upon our country. The steps up to the first level of the monument are easy enough for most ambulatory people to climb. More inscriptions are here. A much longer spiral staircase inside one of the support columns will take you to the upper observation deck. Up there, an incredible view of the battlefield awaits. The Gettysburg battlefield is immense, and we were not able to take it all in, but this monument was recommended to us by a Park Ranger at the museum as a major point of interest. This was a trip well...
