I’ve been here a couple times and each time I learn something new. This time I visited on Memorial Day and watched the parade and attended the ceremony, the crowd wasn’t bad. I imagine they get more people visiting in July. If you are interested in American history, the civil war or just interested in learning about the battle at Gettysburg, you have to stop here. You can tour the battlefield for free. There was no parking fee the day I visited however there is a charge to watch the movie in the visitors center and to get into the museum there. I parked at the Visitors Center and walked over to the Meade House, saw several monuments and markers, and walked to the Soldier’s Cemetery. They do have an auto tour which is well marked. There are several parking lots and public restrooms. There is a cafe in the visitors center - coffee, snacks, sandwiches, hot food, dessert. I missed the movie on this occasion but have seen it before and it’s worth watching before you go driving around unless you are already knowledgeable but I’m that case you still might enjoy the movie. You can get to the Jennie Wade house by waking through the cemetery to Baltimore street. Her grace is actually in that cemetery so you might as well visit the house. It was closed by the time I got there this time. You could probably this a weekend trip. There was a lot I didn’t see today but I live close enough that I can come back. You can rent bikes, there is a company that does a bus tour and of course, ghost tours too!

I agree with that don't eat here because the prices are ridiculous and it's not run by the park service or anybody at the visitor center. It's like a third-party hired out café and the food is really bad quality.! The museum bookstore had an author signing, so we looked out and got a historical book for our son, author: William Styple signed! there's some snacks available there lots of historical books, lotta tchotchkes it seemed very commercialized like you can get a coffee mug with Gettysburg and Abraham Lincoln bubblehead lol. bus tours are $40 for adults. I can't remember the prices for kids and they have four of those that leave Daley. It looks like I'm not sure if it's going to change later in spring or summer hours and the visitor center is nice and the upkeep is nice, and the restrooms are clean. Very windy out on the battlefield. there is a tour where you sit in your car and watch a couple videos at various stop so you can get out and then there's the walking tour that takes about an hour and a half and then there's the bus tours that take about two hours.. My family recommends the auto & walking tours, download the app. Learning about an important war in our country, shouldn't be considered a Tour strap and shouldn't be so much money specially if people need chip jars so apparently they're not getting paid a living wage which is a whole other story but yes, recommend going to Gettysburg at least once in your life and it's quite educational if you download the free tour...

Movie in the Visitor’s Center and 360 degree painting of Pickett’s Charge were very good. But the highlight of our visit was the personalized tour of the Battlefield with licensed guide Les Fowler. We signed up for the 3 hour tour and it was more than worth it. He personized it and knew we were coming from Minnesota so he made sure to spend time at the monument to the First Minnesota Regiment. But even more than that he made the battle understandable and the significance of each of the 3 days. He knew the personalities of the significant people and how that affected decisions. He knew about the monuments. He explained how the battle progressed and took us to places where we could see and understand all the positions of each part of the armies. It was amazing. He answered every question. I was most interested in the horses I especially liked the sculptures of General Reynolds horse Fancy and General Meade’s horse Old Baldy. Les knew a lot about them and the sculptures too. I highly recommend if you are going to take the time to visit Gettysburg to take a personal tour and you will be lucky if you get Les for your guide.

How do you put a "star rating" on a place of history so devastating that it split families? Split our Country. Killed so many Americans. Destroyed so many peoples' lives. How do you "rate" that? The Park is impressive...both in size...and in the care it receives. The monuments from each State...the calvary...the infantry. The cannons on every rise of land. The "visualization" of the battles you READ about in history class...but in the Park...you FEEL them! You are on sacred ground. So many lives lost. So many families destroyed. So many soldiers, farmers, "boys next door", lawyers, doctors, shop keepers...all fighting for a cause THEY believed in. You can FEEL it. The Cyclotron is exceptional! The Battle of Gettysburg is all around you! Amazing! Don't skip the movie, the Cyclotron and the Museum. The experience is well worth whatever it costs. Don't miss those opportunities. The Park is open sunrise to sunset. And the Park is free of charge. Give yourself at least 6 hours to visit the Park. There's so much more to experience than you'll ever get in a book.

What an amazing experience this place is! The vast size of this battlefield is awe inspiring. Over 70,000 men lost their lives battling over a 24 acre piece of land, to either keep or do away with slavery. To learn and to actually be able to visualize how far a canon ball weighing 8 pounds could be launched a mile away with a canon two hundred years ago is truly incredible. The museum displays of the uniforms, handguns, rifles and various artifacts is extensive. I enjoyed the bus tour with the tour guide. It was interesting and fun to hear the narrative of the battle and learn about the little to unknown facts about the battle. In order to experience the entire Gettysburg site, it is easily a two day trip. For convenience, there is a small cafeteria in the main building. The new museum building was.built in 2008 and is very clean and modern. There is a good sized souvenir shop in the main building as well. There are also numerous nearby hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants in the City of Gettysburg. For the history buff, this is a must see place to visit.

The Gettysburg National Military Museum and the Battlefields was a great experience. We spent 3 days visiting the sites. The first day include nearly 5 hours in the museum seeing the film presentation, the Cyclorama, and the wonderful museum. We also visited National Park Service (NPS) programs conducted by Rangers such as the Battle in a Box. The second day included a fantastic three hour battlefield tour with a certified battlefield guide provided through NPS. The guide drove our car and shared all the many stories. After the battlefield experience we visited the National Soldier's Cemetery and joined a free NPS guided tour. In the evening we returned to the Cemetery to participate and experience the playing of Taps by a volunteer as part of the 100 days of Taps (presented between Memorial Day and Labor Day) and a fantastic presentation and explanation by an NPS Ranger. This was a great experience overall. We believe spending the time at the museum first provides the necessary knowledge to truly appreciate the battlefields.
