Love love the public beach! They remodeled the bathrooms since I was there a year ago and they are much nicer and provide more privacy than the old wood slats that were built for the stalls. It was beautiful weather in late October and the island was not crowded. There was plenty of room on the sand to have your own space. Someone had taken the washed-up pieces of beautiful driftwood and created a structure similar to a manger scene. The colors of the sun-bleached wood were spectacular as was the sunset over the water! It looked like a painting! I always enjoy Dauphin Island and the well-known people and restaurants. Everyone you meet knows everyone on the island. It has a great sense of community and family. We are hoping that my son will get an offer from the conservation center that he interviewed with this past Friday! Big prayers for wishes to come true! It has been my dream to live on or by the beach. We had a great day trip and ate amazing fresh oysters and blackened shrimp & crawfish. My dream is to retire to the island or be close enough to smell the salt air and hear the...
Read moreThis is our first time to Dauphin Island, and one of our stops was the East End Public Beach. As we brought Charlie along, a dog-friendly beach was a must-do for us, and this was a good one. There were plenty of places for Charlie to explore. We could have unleashed him, as he's friendly, but he does have a mind to wander and there were plenty of places to explore. The rocky outcroppings encrusted with barnacles were an interesting site, and I discovered a small wooden cross composed of a piece of fencing or crating that had washed up here.
Dauphin Island does get its share of visitors, including jellyfish, so we warned the grandkids to keep a weathered eye while swimming, because nobody likes to be stung by one of these.
One of the things I'd be remiss to mention is the bathrooms. This beach has a line of showers, both overhead and those for feet or little kids. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept. We weren't able to stay long, but it's nice to find a peaceful, uncrowded beach suitable for sandcastles and swimming, that is also...
Read moreGot here a little after 6 AM on Labor Day to do some fishing. Hadn't scouted it much and found that the nearby spots were mostly jetties and I didn't want to crawl around on those. I also didn't walk towards the western side and fish more on the beach. So I only spent about 20 minutes here with no luck. However, a half dozen or more people were out on the jetties fishing and looked to be doing okay.
The beach itself looked nice. They have a little cove built that is cool and likely provides a more casual spot to float on a raft. However, the tide had brought in a fair amount of seaweed. Only complaint is the trash people would just leave on the beach or throw in the jetties. Lots of Monster cans...
Okay spot for a sunrise. Would be better, but the beach curves around just enough to the south to not give a great angle.
Parking lot is pretty big and there are...
