Island MetroPark — Attraction in Dayton

We finally had some nice weather about a month ago and we were dying to get out of the house. I found out about a nice biking/walking trail that begins at this park. So we packed up the car and came here ASAP. This park will be great to visit when it’s officially warm. The jungle gym has three sections for three different age groups, which is awesome! You don’t have to worry about the little ones getting run over by the bigger kids. They also have a little warmer park/sprinkler section that is fenced off and will be open when summer comes. Lastly, there’s an amphitheater. I’m hoping there will be concerts there this summer.

The trail I mentioned goes on to Wegerzyn Park. I think it’s about a five minute bike ride or a 15-20...

The very best thing about Island Metro Park is Clarence the maintenance man! (He gets a 6 out of 5) The worst thing about this park is the parking. It is a hike from the overflow lot to any of the pavilions, etc. The fenced in area around the playground and splash pad is helpful for parents of young kids - however, I have never been to this park when it is NOT busy. There is always a party, family gathering, or other large arrangements of humans going on. The police have been on site more than once when we've attended this park, due to various kinds of questionable activity - but it is always handled professionally and swiftly. WARNING The Stillwater shelter isn't easily accessible to seniors citizens without scooters or walkers/transporters. Individuals with mobility may have difficulties with arriving at to the location. The Stillwater cabin is approximately a quarter of a mile from the main parking lot and secondary parking lot is farther. PLEASE NOTE, the main parking lot very limited handicap parking.
