As is the case with all dog parks, your experiences will differ each time, depending on the dogs and owners who are there. Generally all the dogs behave acceptably but you will find more large dogs with pent up energy on the weekends.
Several times I've been been on the receiving end of verbally abusive owners of small dogs who weren't properly socialized. Once I had my 6 lb. Maltese and (very large) Goldendoodle puppy on the small guy side. A woman screamed at me about how big my baby was, etc. Meanwhile, her dog was attacking and terrorizing her as she just stood there tolerating it lol!
Trees have finally grown large enough to provide decent shady areas as there is just 1 gazebo with seating.
Now that they are selling fence banner advertising and the park is maintained by the park service I do wish they would add agility exercise equipment. It's great to be able to let our dogs safely off-leash and for them to have fleeting socialization but adding mentally and physically challenging equipment would raise the caliber of Lake Ida Dog Park by 500%.
I encourage people, especially the banner advertisers, to contact the park administrator to implement...
Read moreI love Lake Ida dog park because it’s a very large park with different sections. The gated dog area has plenty of space and my dog is so well behaved at home because he exercises here daily. The regulars that frequent here are very kind and pleasant. I will say, occasionally there are dog owners that are very rude, usually because they bring a dog toy and expect ONLY their dog to play with it. (They always mention the toy cost them $7 dollars) I do my best to ignore them, and again it doesn’t happen frequently- but when it does - they always act the same and they are typically NOT regulars.
If you are someone who is unwilling to share and also expect fun loving dogs to NOT want to play - don’t come here! Learn to be flexible, just as children play with toys, so do dogs. Don’t be explosive over a toy!
On another note - it’s free - and most dogs are well behaved and friendly. I do keep an eye out, and try not to bother or antagonize other dogs.
Walking along the water is really beautiful and feels like an escape to a different place. There’s small bridges and...
Read moreI have been here about 10 times and I have never had a problem with the place nor the dogs here. Keep in mind that I have 2 small dogs, so I cant speak for the big dog area, but I have never seen other people have problems either. There are plenty of bags available for your cleaning up after your dog, as well as a water fountain for both dogs and their owners. The dog park is not the biggest ive seen but its a decent size. Theres a gazebo for a couple of people to sit under with their dogs, to get some shade during hot days, and also a couple of benches along the cement pathway for sitting. There are a couple of trees scattered around the park for some shade as well. Ive never seen the park dirty or littered with anything, which is great. Restrooms are located right in front of the parking lot, which is a plus. The parking lot is big enough to accommodate everyone at the park, and is right in front of the park so theres not a lot of walking required. This is where I usually take my dogs, and I definitely recommend it for others to at...
