Wish I could rate them higher....what a great experience for us and the 3 boys!!! Everyone we spoke to or interacted with was first rate from Becky setting up the trip to Michael meeting us and leading us to the boat launch. And then there was Taylor our captain/guide. From the get go you could tell how much he loved the Everglades how much it was in his blood. There’s no going through the motions with him!
We headed out to his favorite alligator holes and we weren’t disappointed. We met “Jumper” who was in his hole when we got there. A couple calls mimicking a young alligator and Jumper quickly swam up to us. It was like he was posing for us. Clearly Taylor and Jumper have a bond as Taylor bent down to scratch Jumper’s neck and I swear he was purring like a cat.
Taylor took the time to explain the alligator hole Jumper lived in, the alligator diet, it’s predators. It was like being part of a National Geographic episode and he explained it in a way that young children could understand. He knew his audience.
We went from there to another area with another hole as well as hundreds of Lilly pads. Taylor started Lilly pads fishing and we were all wondering what was going on. He soon explained as he pulled them apart only to find worms inside the Lilly stems.
Our next stop was the coolest yet. Taylor found a nest of birds and brought out the worms. The very same area we saw more birds. Several alligators from medium size to less than a year old. We saw a long neck turtle. Again all the while Taylor is teaching us about every species and how they matter to the Everglades ecosystem. He explained to us how snakes(pythons) that were bought as pets and then released into the Everglades are disrupting that precious ecosystem. He took the time to stop and show us plants and how they are part of it. He even got the ten year old to eat sawgrass.
I can’t recommend River of Grass enough. I can’t thank Taylor enough for such a...
Read moreI recently went on a tour with Captain Willy at Everglades RIVER OF GRASS boat tours and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Captain Willy is an excellent guide who kept us entertained with his humor and vast knowledge of the area.
During the tour, we saw several alligators up close and even got the chance to get very close to them - it was truly amazing! Captain Willy also pointed out many different species of birds and other wildlife that we might have missed on our own.
Throughout the tour, Captain Willy made sure that we were comfortable and hydrated with cold water bottles always on hand. The only issue we had was finding the boat ramp, but with some help, we eventually found our way.
For anyone planning to go on the tour, here are some directions to help you find the boat ramp: When you arrive at the location, head towards the 2nd boat ramp. To get there, turn right at the first boat ramp and continue heading east for a few hundred yards. You'll see some tanks in the area, and the boat ramp is just past them. To reach the ramp, stay on the levy/dirt road that runs on top of the area.
Overall, I had a fantastic time on the tour with Captain Willy and would highly recommend Everglades RIVER OF GRASS boat tours to anyone looking for an exciting and educational adventure in the Everglades. Thank you, Captain Willy, for an...
Read moreWow! What an amazing and special time. Hubs and I called this place last minute as we wanted a semi-private tour of some gators and the everglades. The woman that answered was very friendly and answered all my questions and got us on the 2:30 tour. The payment and directions were all too easy, and we were greeted by Captain Robby on time. There were 4 others on the tour, so just 6 of us!! Captain Robby is a cool dude who has nothing but respect for the wildlife. He made us feel safe and well taken care of. We saw 2 momma gators. They were protecting their nests, and it was an awesome, up, close experience. As we got deeper in the everglades, we saw two male alligators who were clearly in some fights based on the battle scars along their backs. Captain Robby was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions and provided great detail about the gators and everglades. I also had no idea there are pythons in the everglades eating the gators!! Captain Robby did this whistling thing, and before you knew it, out came like 4 or 5 different bird species. I got to feed the beautiful blue one in the photo. All in all 90 minutes was a perfect amount of time to enjoy ourselves on the airboat in a semi-private setting. 100% recommend to everyone and hope to return again someday. The photos don't do this...
