We loved this hike around String Lake! Perfect for our family with teenage boys. We arrived by 7:30am and enjoyed the path basically to ourselves and the cool morning air. When we left at about 10am there were still a few parking spaces left along the exit drive of the parking lot. The views were incredible, especially in the early morning sun coming in through the trees. Our hike probably took longer than normal because we kept stopping to photograph something breathtaking. Recommend going counter clockwise around String Lake so you can end at the Jenny Lake side. We finished up with a small diversion out and back to Jenny Lake to see some rapids, climb boulders and fallen trees, and see Jenny Lake - entire diversion took about 15 min from the String Lake Loop Trail. Everything was well marked. We saw a young beaver towards the end of the hike and tons of ground squirrels. Just a perfect family hike and loved the quiet morning away from the Jenny...

This is the best trailhead to use for the Cascade Canyon Trail, one of the best hikes in the park. (You can use it for the Jenny Lake Loop as well, but there are many other places you can hop on that trail.) The whole thing was BREATHTAKING, I mean, it makes you stop in your tracks and go WOW. We hiked the Cascade Canyon trail in May and it was warm but VERY snowy up in the canyon. We wore good boots and tromped through almost continuous snow once we got into the canyon. Oh and the air smells amazing. We saw tons of marmots and a pica. Definitely take a short detour to Hidden Falls-...

String Lake is one of the best locations in the Grand Teton National Park! Beautiful views of the Tetons and crystal clear water from the lake. But outrageously small parking lots. Park service really needs to add significantly more parking or other options for people who want to see a beautiful part of their national parks! It's not possible to find a parking spot and enjoy this location AT ALL unless you arrive very early in the morning.

I found it frustrating that there were no spots available when I visited and there was no alternative way to reach this location - without being...

A relatively easy loop hike, just under 4 miles. There’s usually a ranger stationed near the trailhead to answer questions—she was friendly and even gave us a trail map. This is a quieter hiking spot with limited parking, so arriving early helps. Definitely bring bear spray—while we didn’t see any bears, we did notice fresh bear poop along the trail, so it’s important to stay “Bear Aware.” The trail is well-marked, family-friendly, and suitable for kids. Beautiful views throughout and plenty of picnic spots where you can stop and take in the scenery.
