We had such a good time visiting the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center. Everyone really enjoyed learning about the butterflies and what all is going on to help educate and preserve the butterflies in that area. Our crew was made up of ages from 80 all the way down to 4 and everyone of learned something new that day! The staff was super friendly and took the time to answer any and all of the questions that we had, and let me tell you that the 4 and 6 year olds had plenty of questions! Make sure that if you are planning a trip to Calloway Gardens that you include the time to visit the Butterfly center, and plan on staying longer than you expect. You will be able to spend hours in here and probably not see all the different types of butterflies that they have flying around. We spent almost two hours there and even had several of them land on us so we could get an up close and personal view of these wonderful little creatures.

I stopped at the main gate of Calloway Gardens and was able to obtain a pass to enter the Butterfly Center and resort grounds free of charge since it was near closing time. If I would’ve had to pay the regular admittance price to enter I would’ve been mad! I absolutely love butterflies. This is a beautiful place to visit to just to sit and reflect, but I wouldn’t suggest paying to enter unless maybe going for a special event or a class. There was lots of parking and plenty of other things to do and see at the resort that looked super cool! As I got there almost right at closing I didn’t have time to participate in any other activities. The Butterfly Center is not very large and honestly I didn’t see a huge assortment of different colored butterflies while I was there. It is very humid inside with a waterfall and lots of plants and flowers.

We brought my 10 year old son with autism here, hoping he would love the colorful butterflies flying around. And, while he did pay attention to them if they fluttered too close, he more or less ignored them otherwise. The waterfall commanded his complete and undivided attention. That is not to take away from the absolute splendor of this place, however! It is almost like a trip into a tropical rainforest (and nearly as humid)! The placards placed around provide information on the numerous species of flora that can be found inside as well as the butterflies and even the turtles in the small pool. I absolutely love coming to this place and highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to relax for a bit while walking around the gardens of Callaway at large.

I was recently able to spend a few days in Callaway Gardens and during that time, I made my way into the Butterfly Center.

Although this wasn't my first time in the Butterfly Center, it was my first time in many years, so I enjoyed strolling through slowly on a quiet day. It was just as lovely as I remembered it. The establishment is both clean and well maintained, the staff I met while walking through the center were kind, and the butterflies are, as always, breathtaking.

There were so many species to enjoy, and the way they flutter carelessly through their well-designed home is so fun to watch. My favorite part of the experience, was walking around to different bushes, and seeing which species of butterfly were attracted to different flowers. Truly a learning experience!

If you are in the area, or plan to be, make time to visit the Butterfly Center! Free entry (unless you find something at the gift shop!) and plenty of beauty make this a perfect way to spend an...
