Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center — Attraction in Georgia

It doesn’t matter if you have kids, are a kid, or just feel like a kid… if you are visiting Callaway Gardens you must take the time to visit the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center. This is just a fun place where kids of all ages can learn something new. During our visit they had an exhibit called “Toys, the inside story” and it was a super fun and “hands on” exhibition. Have you ever wondered what makes the buzzing noise inside the game Operation? Well you’ll find out when you visit. Or how do all the gears go in just the right places to make a robot move? The answers might surprise you.

Also during our visit there we watched the Birds of Prey show that is performed daily. The keepers of the birds were extremely knowledgeable on each type of bird they brought out and showed off. Although this was in the middle of day and extremely hot, the show was cut a little short just so that the birds didn’t have to spend too much time in this heat. I totally respect that.

When my kids were young, we stopped here on a whim. We were amused by the interactive bug display. My kids are young adults now, but my nieces are young. We thought we would stop in and see what they could "discover." Sadly, they found empty fish food dispensers (though turtles still came over, hoping for food). They had a couple art exhibits to look at, but being so young, they weren't as interested as some adults would be. There was a stuffed animal display that they liked. It was next door to a craft room, which we were told was only for the family adventure plan. The room was empty the entire time we were there, except for the employee manning the table. Great place to visit!!! This place has many different areas. It tells the history of Callaway Gardens and the Callaway family. You can see the Birds of Prey Show. You can also feed the Giant Bream and Turtles!!( The grandchildren always enjoy this!!!) There is a great play ground, just enjoying nature at it's greatest. Oh don't forget the rental bikes and the many bike trails or even being your own bike. Oh yeah, they have different Zipline coarses. One for smaller children and also for the big kids in you!!!!
