Black Hair Matters at Gina’s Hair Talent in East Haven, Ct.
Having done extensive research online, desperately searching for a solution to my hair needs, I found a hair care specialist named Gina, at a shop called “Hair’s Talent” all the way in East Haven, Connecticut. Making the decision to travel the distance came after reading about Gina’s history of hare care for all cultures, and she being the “first and only white woman” who cared greatly about the healthiness of the hair of women of color, from the 1970’s until today, from perms to the extinction of Jheri Curls. My first concerns were that this might be the old Jheri Curl of days gone by, but I was intrigued by what I read in her “HISTORY” and seeing the evidence of her work. Gina, a woman who looked at the problems women of color faced with hair loss due to chemical processing, took the time and made the effort to come up with a successful method of maintaining the healthiness of our hair with chemical processing. She, the one and only hair care specialist, created a method that results in beautiful, bouncing, easily manageable and continuously growing hair that lasts for an extended period of time.
Why are other women of color making negative references toward a “white” woman who could have chosen to maintain the status quo, but who stepped out of the cultural norm, who CARED, who ANALYZED, who CREATED A METHOD to SAVE OUR HAIR! Gina, at Hair’s Talent is so appropriately named…her “TALENT” for taking care of ALL HAIR is not limited to one culture, but all cultures across the globe from Africa to Europe, from the East Coast to the West Coast we travel to put our hair in the care of this “GIFTED” hair care specialist, Gina, who is now sharing her GIFT with other beauticians.
I have chosen the Gina Curl, which is NOT the same as a Gheri Curl or any other curl which I have had! The Gina Curl is a Gina CREATION, and her gift of a style that is beautiful, versatile, healthy, continuously growing, and manageable hair. I can say from my experience that at Hair’s Talent “Black Hair Matters” and we women of color should embrace and not hate this “white” woman who cares...
Read moreThis review is long overdue - Sorry Gina and Hair's Talent (HT) Team! I had been literally stalking Ms. Gina's via her videos and tutorials for two years while I waited to grow out of a not-so-friendly henna treatment prior to getting my first GINACURL eight months ago. For all of you chemical critics out there, I too tried to be a naturalista for a few years, but it did not work for me. I spent hours trying to comb out my thick hair, listening to the snap, crackle, pop each time I dared to comb through it; breaking brushes and knocking out several teeth in hair combs - sigh...it was not pretty and I was 100% over all of it! So I followed Gina's recommendations on her tutorial videos and two years later, I was finally ready to go to Hair's Talent in 2019. I flew 6+ hours to get my first GINACURL, and am going back next month for my retouch - 9 months later, because it's that awesome! Gina and her HT Team were so welcoming, accommodating, friendly, and 100% professional! They worked a miracle on my 4C +XYZ (not a typo lol) grade of hair - yes ultra curly, kinky, Buckwheat's sister level hair! Talk about a transformation! Wow! Soft, shiny, manageable, curly hair, every day for eight months now and still growing!. Probably like you, I have been to many hair stylists in the past, But Gina and the HT Team are all about long term hair CARE! As a result, Gina has a customer for life with me, unless she trains some hair care professionals on my Coast - hint, hint Gina! I updated my post with pictures after my retouch (Summer 2020). If you are looking for a knowledgeable, highly professional and caring hair specialist (she's honestly a hair guru) with an outstanding staff and shop, book your appointment now and go see Gina and the Hair's Talent Team - they will change the way you look and feel about your hair and yourself, literally! And BTW, this is my honest review of Hair's Talent and the GINACURL based on my own experience...read the other reviews if you need to - Hair's Talent is the real deal - hands down, truly the best hair care professionals one can find! See for yourself in...
Read moreLet's be clear, Gina is excellent. When it comes to Afrocentic and non afrocentric hair. Gina is the most unusual & unique as an Cosmetologist she understands her assignment. Gina is waayyyyy too humble. When I first ventured outside of NYC I was very skeptical I said to myself: "I have never in my wildest imagination As a Black woman going to a sweet Italian lady in Connecticut who understands the complexities and the delicateness of Afro hair. Gina is one of a kind. she is very, very Rare & versatile. She is one of the best stylists and a game changer. THE GINA CURL AKA Japanese dual curl and straightener Ginav made with a tweak for ACCESS for coily hair & NON-DAMAGING TO BLACK HAIR if she were to openly publish..... SEVERAL BIG HAIR CONGLOMERATES COMPANIES WOULD LOSE BILLIONS. NO CAP. The REASON WHY I SAY THIS: MY MOTHER (deceased) and Sister were licensed Cosmetologist NYS who attended Wilfred Academy side by side. I know good beauticians when i see them. If you aren't training to learn how to do the GINA CURL and LEARNING the chemicals involved. You're gonna lose money in your business. She is ahead of her time and I wish I had stayed with her my FAULT & immaturity foibles. I am ALOPECIA AREATA survivor and if my hair ever comes back completely. I will be going back to Gina. one other thing. I don't give praise lightly. My name is known as "Theradome" Lady. I am an unpaid Threadome user that the Theradome inventor Dr. Tamin Hamid asked me to participate in interviews. I give unvarnished opinions. The only criticism I have that Gina stay up on the new Japanese technology for hair see about: 1.) ALBAGE hair color lift (clay) system as well as the new Japanese technique:...
