DISCLAIMER: My review is based off being a used-item vendor at this flea market.
Varies in price depending on season but usually $100-$125 fee for vending in the USED section of the flea market. New style items run more expensive for the vendor pass.
There is no type of marketing strategy to get people to come here, as they focus mostly on the racetrack. Right outside the stadium, even on market days (which are only Saturday) they have digital signs that say "Stadium" & "Racetrack" pointing into the parking lot entrance from route 120 Paterson plank road (just add the words "flea market" into the sign, it shouldn't be a tough task considering it's a digital sign). It is not visible from nearly any close distance or major roadways in the areas surrounding the stadium. It is held far back in a section of the parking lot where even from a short distance (maybe 1/8th of a mile) it is not visible enough to determine that it is in actuality, a flea market. With that being said, if there is even a slight wind on the day-of, I have to spend half of my vending hours chasing my items that fly everywhere and sometimes it causes damage to the items which then lose value (trust me, I've tried paper-weights and even other items to secure delicate items down; it's still a hassle). It has to be a perfect non-humid, non-windy day to reach max potential of profiting from your items. The sun drains you excessively so bring a hat or tent (oh I forgot to mention that you need to pay an extra fee to have a standing tent, as it is a liability issue with the event organizers). On any-given-Saturday that I've done this market, I usually make anywhere from $50-$400 on top of the fee. New item vendors make more. The people haggle prices far too often (almost every single time), and they don't actually take a "good-look" at the merchandise unless it is directly in front of them as they quickly walk by. Try to put some visually stunning items in full sight from all angles. Also, the later you arrive to set-up shop, the worse your chances are of people physically making it to the end where you are located, as most food and new vendors is where you walk-in because of parking. Thank the directors for free parking for both vendors and consumers, or else I wouldn't even consider doing this market. Can use better location, better marketing, some type of wind barrier along the outer-borders, some type of small attractions or signs that are visible from outside parking lot & major roadways, and maybe a DJ or speakers for light music during the event. The biggest plus of this market are the prices, new and used! That's about it thus far in 3 years vending it. As a consumer I actually love this market far more than being a vendor and would rate 5 stars from a consumer point-of-view. Please like, rate, review or all-of-the-above whether you found this review helpful or not. All types of feedback are appreciated. Happy Vending and...
Read moreAs a buyer its a great flea market everyone can enjoy...but as a daily vendor its an absolute nightmare and I mean that with every letter of that word. You get there at 5:30 a.m. and wait 4 hours (not even exaggerating) to finally pay the $115.00 fee but by the time you set up its now 10:30 a.m. and that sucks considering it opens at 8:00a.m. The problem is the people running it they are still in the stone age or just too cheap to catch up with the rest of the world. Its as if they are chipping your transactions in stone . The system they currently use is beyond archaic. They need to spend a little money to develop an app or something of that nature to make things run efficiently for everyone. Its time to catch up with the rest of the world cause you are stuck in the past .but Im sure things wont change because they know better...yeah right! So against my better judgement I did attempt to sell at this flea market one last time and I mean last time because some how it has become even worse than it was before . The lack of organization is astounding, with management appearing indifferent to the time and effort vendors invest. The two windows that are open are not efficient and should open earlier than 7 am and the staff does a lot of lollygagging .There’s no sense of urgency or respect for the vendors' schedules, leading to a chaotic and disheartening experience. It’s clear that management is just too old and not up with the present times, they probably use rotary phones still refusing to adapt or modernize, leaving vendors to bear the brunt of their inefficiencies. If you’re considering selling at the Meadowlands Flea Market, be prepared for a long, grueling ordeal that makes you question whether it's worth the hassle for me its simply...
Read moreThere are Pros and Cons to the Meadowlands flea. If your a shopper its lots of items to see , Many bargains. Just be careful and check your items carefully before buying. Some vendors are pricey few are not .There are very little antique dealers but you can catch some antiques here and there. Some of the things you can find tems are tools ,electronics, musical instruments, clothing, military gear, toys, shoes art, home decor, toys, random boxes filled with junk, record's, cosmetics, food, and more. The vendors are not allowed to sell handbags due to fines they received from fake designer handbags . To sell food you have to have permission and all licences. No tents are allowed even though I seen vendors with tents. To become a vendor it cost a minimum as of 2019 of $100 for a daily spot which is expensive, especially if you do not have higher priced items or lots of relevant low price items. The regular vendors are very pushy and cocky , They steal your spots if you wait in line and have to go to the bathroom or leave for a second. So bring a chair or have a friend but they will move your chair if you leave..The regular vendors brag alot about how much they sell and all there other flea market achievements amongst each other . You will find this out in the morning when you wait in line for a spot. Just listen to there conversation. You'll also learn some things along the way. There is also a lot of theft here so protect your items that are valuable. They steal non valuable items to. It's a crowd that's about 35% latino 35% white, $12 percent African...
