This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE place to take the dog. When we make the turn on the road to the beach, the dog starts going crazy because he knows where we are and can't wait to get out and run on the beach. The beach itself is on a calmer part of the water, so you're not going to run into really tough tide even in worse weather. The beach must be a good half mile or so long so there's a large amount of space to put your stuff. Dogs and people both swim in the water. Yes, the dogs (and people I'm sure) pee in the water. Not worried too much about that. The ocean current is constantly active, so it doesn't stay stagnant like other dog parks that might just have a pond.
There are dogs all over the place here. Unfortunately, some people don't clean up after their dogs all the time, so you do have to watch out for that. Those aren't the majority though. People are typically friendly. How can you not be here? Some times there's an ice cream truck that shows up in the parking lot.
One thing I have to note. If you're going on the weekend, I suggest getting there by 10am because there's very limited parking. Two small lots on both sides of the road. If you don't get in early, you wind up having to park on the road shoulder and could be a good half mile from the beach entrance.
I can spend the whole day here. Hours just...

We bring our Airedale Terrier (absolute legend, full of zest and noble scruff descendant of K9 and World War veterans) and the moment his paws hit the sand, he levels up into a creature of pure stoke. You can see it in his eyes: âThis is where I was meant to be.â And honestly...? Same...
This beach is sacred ground. Dogs of all sizes living their truth, humans vibing in weird times, and the ocean just doing its thing in the background like some wise old chill mentor. Our guy tears it up in the surf, makes new best friends every 30 seconds, and channels the energy of a thousand tail wags into one glorious dog walk.
Golden retrievers be galloping like they trained with Baywatch. Mutts doing splash sprints. Labs just straight-up baptizing themselves in joy. And our Airedale? Right in the thick of it, ears flapping like wings of freedom.
Every time we go, I leave with sand in my shoes, slobber on my shorts, and a deep sense that the universe is fundamentally good.
Longport Dog Beach: 5/5 â
If happiness had a zip code, it would be here.
Stay respectful. Clean up the dookies. Let the pups live their best life. Gratitude to the dog beach mermaid...
Read moreOMG THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO GO TO. i was shocked compared to previous postings that write well of this location. It was horrible. First, there is no road directions or better put, signs depicting where this is. Next, the parking is not identified. You sort of figure it out just before the toll bridge to Ocean City. Most important is the place stinks, It has all sorts of flies (someone said gnats) that bite you throughout, and people do not all clean up behind their dogs. The place is full of dogs and admittedly if you can put up with the smell, the flies, and dog feces...then more power to you....but not me. Last year I was at the dog beach in Wildwood which is part of the 'people's beach'. and it was like night and day compared to this place. i think the issue is the dog beach here seems like an after thought that is not maintained properly, and as such is not suitable to human and dog use. For those reasons I cannot recommend this beach, until the proper authorities maintain it, and enforce proper use by the patrons. (I would have took a picture of the feces but ....you can...
