The El Campo Museum is about 66 miles from Houston and is co-located in the same building with their Civic Center. Their wildlife taxidermy displays were touted as a key attraction point, so I thought I'd take to the highway and check out the museum. The drive with regular traffic is just about 60-70 minutes, although Google maps will show it as approximately 80-90 minutes out. On arrival the museum was clearly labeled and visible from the roadway. Parking was plentiful and well laid out. For a museum it is rather on the small side, but could still easily accommodate 30-40 people at a time. For the small town of El Campo (less than 12,000 people) that's a good size. The smaller size means things are arranged much closer to the viewer with all the benefits that brings. For lovers of wildlife the museum has done an admirable job. Dozens of species are displayed from multiple continents and ecological habitats in an orderly fashion, and the majority of the taxidermy displays were within touching distance. The ability to be so close to massive animals such as the grizzly bears or African Rhino gives one a much greater perspective on the size and power of these majestic animals...an experience simply not possible with taxidermic displays mounted meters away from the viewer. This made observation and picture taking very enjoyable and easy. The museum has a small town charm and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and plan to come there again with my family, so they can enjoy the displays and small town charm as well.

Awesome place to see taxidermy animals from all over the world. Plus a play area for kids from doctors office with real X-ray pictures, dinosaur dig, veterinary area, a puppet show and many more. And there are real animals to play with and observe. They also do...
