Jewel Lake — Attraction in El Cerrito

A really nice tiny lake next to the main Wildcat Canyon trail. On a good day you can see terrapins sunning themselves on logs, and the overall feeling of being next to a tiny lake in the middle of a semi-urban forest is wonderful. Water levels get low in dry years, though. Take one of the (short) Packrat trails there or back through the forest from the parking area and walk through the forest...

Lower packrat trail is like trails you would find in the wilderness, secluded, quiet creek flowing as you walk to the sounds of birds chirping and small creatures scurrying under the brush. . . FYI this trail could be difficult for the elderly or those with orthopedic issues. ( knees and hips ) speaking...

Jewel Lake is silting up but what little water there...
