We loved the views on of Mt Rainier from the trails in this area. We were lucky to be there on a cloudless day. It was pretty crowded in the area, but we easily found a parking spot. We hiked clockwise on the Sourdough Ridge Trail (from the Sourdough Ridge Trailhead) to Frozen Lake, returning to the parking area via the Wonderland & Sunrise Rim Trails. It took a little over 2 hours to do the 4.2 mile hike, with about 600’ elevation gain. The crowds thinned once we got way from the parking lot, especially on the Wonderland Trail section. Carry lot of water, as it is pretty hot in late July on the day we were there. Highly recommended.

Perfect first hike in the Sunrise area of MRNP. Wonderful views of Tahoma, Little Tahoma, and the surrounding mountains. Rodents and mountain goat sightings. Wildflower splendor. Even with the thinner oxygen and wildfire smoke, you can have an enjoyable hike. We took Nature Trail to the service road to Wonderland Trail to Frozen Lake and back to Sunrise via Sourdough Ridge, making our journey a loop experience. No services beyond Sunrise, so use the bathroom and stock up on water/ snacks. Worth a visit and we will be returning.

We walked this trail from the Sunrise Visitor Center to Frozen Lake. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL scenery and views. Simply amazing. CAUTION: the first 20-30 mins of hiking out from the Visitor Center is uphill and moderately strenuous and for those who are older or less fit, take frequent stops. After the first 20-30 mins you will be fine. it is all level or downhill practically to Frozen Lake
