Hiked the Beacham Trail from the recreation area to the dam and then back. The trail wraps around the whole lake, but the part on the other side of the dam didn't seem as open as the first half. If we'd had better walking shoes we probably would have kept going. On the map of trails, Beacham Trail is marked as being paved, but really it's just a lot of rocks. No concrete. The hike was really nice. Since it had rained a couple of days before, we were able to hear the small streams rushing by, as well as birds chirping and even a woodpecker. Getting to the dam took about an hour, but getting to the dam and then walking down to feel the waterfall was definitely worth it! We even walked into the trees a little to cool off in the mist. My only complaint (which I shouldn't even complain about since we were in the woods) is the amount of spider webs we ran into. Waving a stick in front of you...
Read moreWe started at the city park and went clockwise around the lake. It has been raining / snowing and the trail was quite wet. It seemed like the trail itself was a stream path plus we had to cross many streams running into the lake, some getting a bit too deep for normal hiking. We had the right footwear so it was actually quite fun and adventurous. The final crossing was too much it would have been waist high so we had to divert up to the ball fields and it added a few miles to the hike. Again, no problem we are all in shape, but we had a two year old with us that lost patience and cried for the last couple of miles. At the end we met other groups that fell into the same trap. So be warned if you are not ready to cross ankle high water and jump 6 feet across knee high water and add several miles to the trip then turn around at the dam and go back the...
Read moreVery nice park with a nice walking/hiking trail that takes a couple hours from start to finish... The dame was awesome to look at and experience! the different sections of terrain were nice and the trails were well managed... for the most part! I dont know if we went right after a washout or something but the beecham trail at the southern point was completely washed away and not passable unless you walked in a foot of water or so... it looks like there was a bridge, maybe but wouldn't have helped us too much... we ended up walking in the water a decent amount and accidentally dropping a phone in the water trying to jump from one dry spot to another. (Also we saw an Armadillo!!... we're from Indiana and so that was...
