On Wednesday I had scheduled a 9:00am service. I arrived on time and was given a robe and proceeded to wait for my service. 15 minutes later I came downstairs and asked If they forgot about me. I was told that she was on her way. Ten minutes later they decided to level with me and said they could not reach her. A few minutes later the manager called the salon and said the esthetician had overslept and would be there in 15 minutes. Roughly 45 minutes later she arrived and I went back upstairs. She came in the room and I jokingly said “late night last night!”. She said “I knew that you were going to say that”. I had my service, paid and left. On Saturday morning I received an email asking for me to fill out a satisfaction survey. I said it was unacceptable, and recounted my experience. Saturday evening I got a call from the manager asking what why I rated it so poorly. I explained what happened and what I had said to the esthetician. The manager said that if she had known what I had said she would have asked me to leave and that they did not want “my kind” in their establishment. The manager then proceeded to berate me that I didn’t know the esthetician’s situation, to which I replied that it wasn’t something that I needed to know. She also stated that she was going to comp my service but changed her mind after she heard what I said to the esthetician. I was appalled by her comments towards me. Read moreBella on the Bay is going to extraordinary lengths for its customers to minimize the risk of COVID-19. As an individual in a high risk category I recently booked a men's haircut at Bella. A sign at the door, long before the state-issued mandate, said that masks were necessary to enter. Immediately inside a special hand washing station had been set up. A service provider, masked and dressed in protective clothing, met me at the door, took my temperature, and asked me the same questions about possible exposure that I had been asked at medical facilities. I was given a protective overgarment and shoe covers and then led across the beautiful newly refinished oak floor of this spotless historic home to the salon. The stations in the light and expansive room were widely separated and appointments had been managed so I was the only one there. My stylist, Oakley, was dressed as if she was ready for surgery. She is a very experienced stylist and did a great scissors cut, followed by a wash and towel dry. Afterwards I was led to the payment area, where a small opening in the plexiglass shield allowed me to pay (and tip) using my credit card and no other assistance. I left through a separate exit, avoiding any contact with incoming customers, and left my disposable shoe covers and reusable overgarment in separate bins. Signs directed me back to the parking area.
