Long point trail is a popular out and back hike that rewards you with a beautiful panoramic view of the New River Gorge and bridge. It's about 1.6 miles one way and as you get closer to the Point, it gets a little more technical with rocks and roots. The point has dropoffs with no guard rails so if you bring children, you will need to stay vigilant. Again, this is a popular trail and it can get a little crowded some days. Be courteous and follow trail etiquette and everyone should be able to have a good time. While bikes are allowed on this trail up to the point where the trail gets narrow and technical (there is a sign saying no bikes past this point), I honestly do not recommend biking this trail due to the high traffic. The nearby Arrowhead trails will be much more fun for biking. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times and their waste must be picked up and packed out (this applies to all NRG trails). A leash will keep your pup safe from the dropoffs and other wildlife. I do not recommend this busy trail for reactive dogs. It'll stress the dog (and people) out pretty badly. Overall, this is a great, well maintained trail for day hiking with...

Long Point Overlook offers stunning views of the New River Gorge Bridge, one of the most iconic bridges in the United States. The hike to the overlook is short and easy, making it a great option for families and people of all fitness levels.

The trail to Long Point Overlook begins at the Long Point Trailhead. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. The hike is mostly downhill, with a few short uphill sections. The trail passes through a forest of hardwood trees, and there are several benches along the way where you can stop to rest and enjoy the scenery.

After about 1.5 miles, you will reach the Long Point Overlook. The overlook is a large rock outcropping that offers panoramic views of the New River Gorge Bridge and the surrounding mountains. The views are simply breathtaking. You can see the New River Gorge Bridge stretching across the gorge, and you can also see the rapids of the New River below. On a clear day, you can even see the mountains of Virginia in...

New River Gorge is a fascinating landscape that now has one of the most impressive bridges crossing it. The rich mining history and determination to make the bridge a possibility draw many people from many states to visit. The visitor center has a great view. But to get the real appreciation you have to hike out to the Long Point Overlook. It starts super easy with gravel. Then into the forest there is well packed dirt. Once you get to the roderdenrom forest, you are really close to the overlook. A bit steep during this part, but when you emerge you will be rewarded with an epic view of the 3030 foot long New River Gorge bridge. Extreme caution must be exercised on this overlook. Most edges do not have any ledges to the steep dropoffs aside the main area. The reason for four stars is because it is not suitable for everyone due to the very steep sides. That being said, it is a truly amazing view, you just have to be...

Great kept walkway. A bit steep only due to my bilateral hip osteoarthritis and the wooden stairs were thankfully not slippery. Great space for some bridge pics along the way. There were many accidents on that specific morning with unkempt roads to get here yet we thankfully missed that and during winter please pack extra Warmies for your body, hats, scarves, neck warmer, gloves, jackets et. It was Uber cold and I honestly wasn't prepared for the weather. It would be a moderate hike for physical disabilities yet even for me, I did not make it far but it was sure pretty and I appreciated the drive here.
