My family and I had a great time camping here for 2 nights, so it makes me sad to have to leave a 1 star review. We stopped at the Trading Post on the way out on 6/16/24 around 1:00pm. There was also a sweet young man in there who clearly had a developmental disability. He was asking questions and seemed to be having a fun time hanging out. As we were walking out, one of the women followed my family and I out. She was an older white woman with curled, shoulder length white hair and was wearing light makeup. She followed us out and said “Excuse me, can you take him with you?” I was confused and laughed it off thinking that she was talking about my family members. She was not. She was talking about the young man. Another young man in a uniform and sunglasses walked up and she started asking us, “Do you think he’s on drugs? There’s something wrong with him. I think it’s drugs”. I honestly could not believe she said that. I told her that it was CLEAR he had developmental differences and to use this as an opportunity to be kind instead of assuming that someone is on drugs.
Other than her nasty and hateful comment, we had a great time. I just couldn’t NOT let others know.
If you have any loved ones with developmental delays/differences, I (unfortunately) recommend that you keep them close by if that...
Read moreHigh Falls State Park easily earned its 5-star rating during our recent autumn visit—it truly did not disappoint. This park is a fantastic destination, offering great scenery, spacious camping, and surprising opportunities for fun. The natural landscape here is stunning, anchored by a superb network of hiking paths. The trails are excellent, following the rushing river and climbing the surrounding hills, which makes for both peaceful nature walks and satisfying exercise. The absolute highlight of our stop was the unexpected fun provided by the park. During our visit, they hosted a fall scavenger hunt. While it seemed designed for younger visitors, we jumped in anyway and had an absolute blast! It was a brilliant, interactive way to explore the park and was the most memorable part of our entire trip. The campground itself is nice and wonderfully spacious. We noted that it is separated from the main park attractions, located just across the street. While the split is a little strange at first, it's very easy to navigate and ensures the camping area remains peaceful. High Falls is a must-visit for anyone looking for beautiful trails, clean facilities, and maybe even a fun...
Read moreAn awesome place to go for some fun and relaxation. There is a lot to do at this park and no matter what you enjoy as long as you like the outdoors there is something to do. There are two sets of campgrounds at the park; one is on the lake side and one is on the river side. I prefer the river side. There is a playground on the lake side but the one on the river side was removed, hopefully they will replace it. They also have yurts for rent. There is a swimming pool that is open to the public for a price during the summer. If you enjoy hiking they have a couple of trails that run by the river, these close at dark. There is also fishing either in the lake or the river. This can be hot or miss depending on the weather conditions. If the water is stained from a lot of rain you probably will not catch that many. That being said, this is one of the best lakes in Georgia to fish for hybrid and catfish. There is also a good bit of Crappie in the lake. If you have a paddleboard or kayak this is a great lake to go because they do not allow any motor larger than 9.9hp. Whether you are looking for somewhere to camp or just a place to spend a couple hours this is a great park come...
