Iowa state Penitentiary was first built in 1839 and was in operation for than 160 years. This site still has operational cells. It has a very old timey prison fell. Kind of like Alcatraz on the Mississippi River. Wow, just wow...If those walls could talk??

We were actually lucky enough to get a tour of the historic prison! Though I don't think this is something that is typically offered, I would recommend this to anyone that is able to get one! This is as long as I hope to ever spend inside a prison, but definitely worth the visit and...
