Fort Madison Marina — Attraction in Fort Madison

The marina looks nice, been open nearly a year now. The tricky part is figuring out who to actually talk to or who is running the place. They have no regular scheduled hours, it's very rare you find anyone in the marina store and transient boaters are having lots of problems getting people to return phone calls or even be around when they show up for slips and services. Be prepared and know your processes for pump out and fueling. It's basically self service so you need to know your safety protocols for your own vessel and safety processes. Place is great, but they have virtually no one with marina experience or maritime knowledge so that is a growing process, training and experience. Walked from our hotel. Nice stroll along the Mississippi. Sat at the bar. Plenty of open seats. Not too busy on a Saturday night. 5 people behind the bar making drinks. 1 quite busy, the other 4 more interested in conversing with each other than attending to customers. Had to flag one down to place our drink order. Drinks came quickly and my specialty drink was delicious. Took another long time to get someone's attention to get refills and order food. Food came quickly, was hot and really good. I wasn't impressed with it being tossed onto the bar and no one offered utensils or napkins. My husband is in a wheelchair and we’ve found that many restaurants say they are handicapped accessible but it’s a real pain to access them. This restaurant is great because it is accessible and there’s sidewalks along the riverfront for a nice stroll before/after your meal. Inside the restaurant, it is roomy - not cramped.

You have to go to the counter and order your own food but it’s worth the wait. My kids are pretty picky eaters yet everyone found something they enjoyed. Our grandkids were visiting from Omaha and our grandson said that was the best French fries he ever tasted. I had a salad and, although it wasn’t large, everything was fresh and tasty.
